INTRODUCTION This item is designed specifically and exclusively to train the 'abs' (adbdominal) muscles. Unlike the Total Gym 1000 (Which you can read my review of, if you want to know more!) which is designed to be used for many other body parts other than just the abdomen.
DESIGN I have taken a couple of photos to demonstrate how the design appears - as I realise it's not always easy to describe a physical object that is somewhat technical/mechanical in its design without having a photo or two of it in order to get across what I am describing here! Essentially, after reading the clear and informative instruction manual - or watching the free video that came with mine, one is instructed to lie on ones back on the floor and to put ones buttocks about one third of the way onto the cushioned rockable/rollable base pad. This rollable pad provides the fulchrum from which your lower and upper stomach muscles will need to contract upon/with in order to make workout out of this! There is a well cushioned neoprene-style padded bar that you rest the back of your lower legs upon, which is purpendicular to the bar - and this is so that your thighs can be positioned at a right angle from your abdomen. There is then another similarly padded bar that your knees/front of thighs touch which by pulling your knees into your chest allows you to perform a stomach contraction while simultaneosly the rolling pad that your bum is on lifts your lower abdbomen off the ground slightly. You also get a padded separate head/neck-rest piece to help avoid any neck discomfort whilst performing these exercises and …. If that wasn't enough … there is also a foldable little bar that you can pull out and hang weight discs (not supplied with this machine) onto, which you may want to use if you are fit enough and want an even more intense workout!
WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES - FROM A KINESIOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW: This machine is brilliant - becuase of it's design it enables the lower, middle and upper abdominals to be TOTALLY TARGETED. It facilitates what I have long believed to be the very best abdominal excercise (well for me at least!!) .... Namely what is know in the fitness/exercise world as a 'Reverse Crunch'!! A Reverse Crunch can be so effective because it puts emphasis primarily on the lower abs and brings in the secondary emphasis of middle and upper abs as a complete muscle contraction is made during this exercise. I have found that it was always for me the lower abdominals that needed more work than the upper abs because I never had a paunch in my upper abdomen - but usually always in the lower abs…. Hence the typical "Beer-Gut" type of paunch … and I am sure I am not alone in this type of abdominal 'manifestation'!!
WHAT IT HAS DONE FOR ME SO FAR: Well, I can't put it down to the Ab Revolutionizer alone … because I have used my other superb piece of home exercise equipment (the Total Gym 1000 as mentioned before) to build lots of good fat-burning muscle on other parts of my body that can only help to speed up my metabolism … and I have also been careful with what I have been eating (and I do NOT mean eating less by any means! … Instead I mean just being sure I eat the right kinds of Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats etc!). Nevertheless I have only been quite seriously training for a month and a half and I am down from a 39-Inch waist to 36 Inches …. And I reckon it won't be long before I hit my 34-Inch waist target!! My stomach is stronger, tighter, and smaller than before … especially the lower part … and no longer hangs over my belt - so, right now, I couldn't be happier!
COST I think I paid about 70 Pounds for it and maybe about a tenner for carriage. I ordered it over the phone after seeing it advertised on a shopping channel on TV.
CONCLUSION There are definitely other ab-targetting devices you can buy from an infomercial on TV. I do not doubt that you may well find something cheaper - in fact I have bought a few of them myself in the past. For instance I have used an abdominal cradle/roller-cage type of device - the type that helps you do an ordinary type of forward rolling stomach crunch - and then there was also a thing called an 'Ab-Swing' and whilst they did work for me to an extent … there is is, in my opinion, No Way that they can give me the same level of highly focussed abdominal workout that I have got from using the AB Revolutionizer. So if, like me, you want tighter, stronger and altogether better abs -and are prepared to put in the necessary 'gym time' - and other things such as good nutrition, and other body conditioning exercises, etc, etc - Then I believe you will want to consider the possibility of doing what I did and getting one of these for yourself!!
