They have barely changed in 2 years - Wonder Why!?
Advantages: Durability, speed and control - Superb!! Disadvantages: There's no snow!
Rossignol have kept these bad boys pretty much the same for the past 2 seasons simply because there is nothing they could do to make them better! These skis are guaranteed fun, on or off-piest. I'm going to keep them for at least 10 years.
Not quite as fast as my old school Rossignol 198's but then again Bandits are like paddles in comparison. The wide structure does help them cruise nicely over powder and still leaves you with a great degree of ... ...those of an intermediate or advanced level. Very hard to fault them but I would say they need tip guards as these do tend to get a little cut up. Not really a fault, just a good idea if you want to keep them looking as slick as they did when you bought them. ...

Salomon SnowBlades
Advantages: great fun and easy to use Disadvantages: binding are a bit fiddley and it takes some time to put the skis on
I have used these skis several times on hire from my local ski shop at my skislope, ski rossendale in lancashire, and i have found them to be reliable, well built, easy to use by me at an intermediate level and most of all great fun. The original freeride skis
Advantages: Ease of turning, handling, style, following. Disadvantages: None I can think of.
...always try to get the Salomon X-Screams. They are incredibly easy to turn, have a nice carving action, and are probably one of the best skis around. They have a huge free-ride following, and are used by beginners and experts alike. They are the skis by which all others are judged. The newer X-screams have the Prolink arms 'to guarantee ski/snow contact'. Wether it actually works is another matter... but it sounds and looks cool!
So basically, these ...

Volkl ski bases are bad!!
Advantages: Nice to ski on, effortless turning Disadvantages: Have had bad experience with prevoius model
I have been skiing since I was 3 years old am now am 21. I have been on the world circuit most of my life and have been in the German national ski team and won German national titles at a young age.
A team member and I both bought a previous model of Volkl carvers (orange ones) and although they are and excellent ski we both had problems with the bases. During training in New Zealand on a rocky face there was a small land slide with pebbles scattered ... ...as much as we could we later found that our bases had huge chunks taken out of them by the pebbles. They were huge gored out grooves and we were not impressed!. Later that season I crashed in a downhill event and snapped one of my skis.
So the only problem was that they broke on me and that the bases were similar in strength to solid wax. ...

SW 12 vs My Speed Wave 14 & this year experiences
Advantages: Huge and variable grip and cool graphics. Disadvantages: Not resistant to rocks and their abrasive personalities.
Wow, What a ski! I had the Speed Wave 12 last year and bought a 4 cm shorter SpeedWave 14 this year. This ski carves it up even dull ( now ) and keeps on the line I set without chatter. I especially like the softer flex in the bumps and the solid edge they give me when I trust them at my limit. I also like the variable turn radius, VERY cool for those easier last few runs of the day at speed.
I found the SW14 at 160cm and being 5'6" and 200lbs and ... ...to be fantastic ( I have demoed LOTS of hi-end skis lately ) . I would not hesitate to recommend this to any advanced skier who likes to carve hard and wants to carve harder and feel the thrill of solid and reliable grip in all conditions.
I do like the graphics ( and so do all of the kids ) and I find the scratch resistant top sheet better than last year. I wish all skis had a harder base when skiing rocks. I do wish the Fusion binding was a bit ...
