...OK sorry for the awful joke. Alternative titles could have been "Give the man a hand", "You gotta hand it to tog 24" and the "keeping Mrs Palm and her five lovely daughters warm" but the last one is too long and wouldnt fit. So this was the other bit of kit I needed along with the Stealth jakcet and Snowcap trousers. Again it was from the Tog24 factory shop (www.tog24.com) These were one of the first pairs I picked up and were priced at £15. There was a similar pair in the bargain bin for £4 but the toggle had broken on one of the cuffs and the restiching required may have ruined the waterproofing - so decided to go for the ones on the rack.. The Tog24 website says you can get these in Black or Baby Blue, but the ones I bought were Olive so maybe these are a new colour or a discontinued one (or maybe they made a mistake... Read review

Advantages: very versatile

...effectively for me. To buy this coat it cost me £32.00 in the sales which I think was exceptional value. It comes in lots of different sizes to suit all shapes of people from size 10/12 to size 18/20. It comes in the following colours black, baby blue, avio, coffee print, lilac print, pink, pink print and pink/grey. So there are different colours to suit different tastes. Personally I have the coffee print which I love. It is a brown/grey colour with a print of flowers, which is brown. The print reminds me of some print on surfing clothes. It is a subtle print and not in your face. It is a very unusual colour. On one of he cuffs of my sleeve the 'Milatex' logo is embroidered in white it isn't very large or noticeable. On the left hand side at the front on the chest the 'Tog 24' logo is embroidered with 'technical' embroidered in light pink... Read review

Advantages: Slick and user-friendly. Protected from the elements. Only little adjustment needed
Disadvantages: Less ratios than dérailleur gears

...that many people cut their cycling teeth on. They were reliable, and could be changed standing still OR pedalling OR freewheeling, and needed little adjustment. Such adjustment as was needed was simple in the extreme – disconnect the control cable, let the mechanism ‘relax’ into top gear, and then take up all the cable slack. Voilà, all three gears would snick neatly into place, or ‘indexed’ as they’d be called today. Their limiting factor was the pitifully small amount of ratios available although later versions saw them creep into the four and even five speed formats but not with much success. It was little wonder that the dérailleur system of exposed cogs and chains that jump from cog to cog became the de facto gear change mechanism for most cyclists. After all, 8 cogs at the back and 3 up the ‘pedals end’ would give you 24 combinations... Read review
