Advantages Advantages Cheap and useful piece of exercise equipment

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too small, awful pump

In my quest to get back down to my ‘fighting weight’ I have stocked my home with a variety of exercise equipment which over time are slowly but surely being relegated to dust covered room corners and even dustier cupboards. One such item that falls under the soda-stream category of ‘good idea at the time, never use’ was the Argos Value Range Gym Ball. What Is It For? The Gym Ball or Swiss Ball as it sometimes known is designed for two purposes… Three if you want to recreate badly a scene from The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan. The first use is for exercise and is designed to tone and ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap, easy to inflate, comes with a pump

Disadvantages Disadvantages storage could be an issue

I first bought a Swiss Ball when I was pregnant with my Son a few years ago, however I managed to lose it. My midwife recommended that I use a Swiss Ball with my recent pregnancy as our baby was facing ‘back to back’, so I didn’t want a ball which was too expensive as I wasn’t sure of how much use it would get following the birth. I purchased the Swiss Ball from Argos and it was part of their ‘Value’ range costing a mere £4.99 for a 55cm ball. I was surprised to find that there was also a pump in the packaging, plus an exercise instruction sheet. If you have a look through the Argos catalogue ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Argos Value Gym Ball I have rather vivid memories of me in the delivery suite at my local hospital bouncing up and down on one of these gym balls trying to encourage Jack into this world without much success to be fair but seeing as I am now over half way through my second pregnancy I thought I would get myself in shape and prepared a lot more than I was the first time round. Thus have had this gym ball since I knew I was pregnant in order to get used to using it and tone up some of the muscles I am going to need during labour. I have previously owned a few different gym balls but have either ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, does the job its designed for well.

Disadvantages Disadvantages If you're over 5'6" you may want to opt for a different one thats a bit larger.

The first gym ball I had was years ago, and it was brought to me by my physiotherapist who showed me a variety of exercises to do on it to assist me with balance issues and stability. Obviously when my course of physiotherapy ended she took the ball away and I had to buy my own. The ball I bought lasted me a few years, but eventually it got a puncture, and needed replacing, and it was this Argos version that I replaced it with. The initial thing I'm going to say about this is that in my experience there is very little difference between brands with an exercise ball because a ball is a ball is ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to pump up, strong, sturdy, helps me tone and strengthen.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Needs re-inflating frequently but that's not unusual for gym balls.

You may have seen from some of my reviews that I have been healthy eating and trying to lose weight for several months now, if not more. I have lost a few stone (5 or 6) over the past year or two and I have got back in the swing of it recently in a bid to ensure that I do not put any of the weight back on. I have a gym membership now and I like to try and visit 3 times a week, however, sometimes I just don’t have the motivation to leave my lovely home on my day off, other than to go to the park with my nieces and nephews, and so I have lots of items at home that I can use to exercise.
