A long time ago, (way before my time), Arsenal didn't wear what people call the traditional 'red and white,' a long time ago, their home kit used to be a dark red shade, or as people call it 'Redcurrant.'
Last season was the last time Arsenal would play in their famous stadium Highbury, and so Arsenal decided that to make the last season there special, they would go back to the original colours that they wore when they first moved to Highbury, back in 1913.
The shirt turned out to be immensely popular, even though it was only worn for one season. Even non-Arsenal fans seemed pretty keen on the shirt, saying it was a great looking shirt, and it was a nice way to say goodbye to Highbury. I hope you enjoy my review on a great football shirt!
DESIGN As I said above, the shirt is designed to be just like the one that Arsenal wore in 1913, this means using the same colour and shapes on the shirt. On this shirt, there is a collar that can be worn folded down, or folded up, though down is probably more traditional. The Arsenal crest is in the centre of the shirt, rather than in the normal left hand corner. Above the Arsenal crest, the word Highbury is stitched on, and then under it, there is 1913-2006 stitched on. This is to let you know that Arsenal have been playing their home games at Highbury for that period of time. The same is stitched onto the lower back of the shirt, in a curved line.
The Nike tick is where it normally is, in the top right hand corner, and the O2 sponsor is in the middle of the shirt like normal.
On the two sides of the shirt, there is a vented area, and this is also on the two shoulder areas. These vents let enough air in to keep you cool!
COLOUR The main colour theme for the shirt is dark red. Or 'Redcurrant.' The colour is a really nice shade of red. It doesn't stand out too much, but it is enough to make you stand out in a crowd. The lettering, and stitching on the shirt is all gold, and this compliments the redcurrant very well.
COMFORT The shirt really is one of the most comfortable shirts you can wear. I really don't know why it is so comfortable. I think that Nike have a knack for making really comfortable shirts. It is really lightweight, so I think this helps. The vented areas on the shirt don't itch like it does on some shirts. And really there aren't any areas on the shirt that itch you. If you are looking for a comfort football shirt, then look no further than this football shirt!!
ANY BAD PARTS OF THE SHIRT I really don't think that there are any bad parts of the shirt. The lettering on my shirt has not started to peel off, and shows no sign of doing so in the near future. They are stuck onto the shirt as much as they were when I first bought the shirt.
BEST PART OF THE SHIRT I think that the comfort that this shirt has is a great part of the shirt. But I think that the history that the shirt carries with it is probably the best thing about the shirt. It is a really historic shirt, and one of the best shirts you can probably buy. So overall I think that the whole shirt is the best thing about the shirt, (if that makes any sense)!
PRICE You can buy this shirt for a bit cheaper than what you used to be able to when it first came out. You can get it for between £15-30. The price depends on where you decide to purchase it.
OVERALL This shirt is a masterpiece of a shirt. It mixes history with class. It is probably the most comfortable shirt you could ever purchase, and it is also amazingly good looking. Even if you aren't an Arsenal fan, you can't deny how good this shirt looks. If you are looking for a cheap alternative for an Arsenal shirt, and still want to look great in it, buy the 2005-06 Arsenal shirt. Look great, feel great, and wear a bit of history in the process!!!
