...I suddenly realised I?d had this DVD for AGES and still not got round to finishing my review of it. Before I tell you about this one I need to give you a little plot overview of this Historical adventure starring the first Doctor (William Hartnell) and his companions Ian, Barbara and Susan. Join me in three paragraphs time if you don?t want to know!
The Doctor and his companions find themselves materialising in fifteenth century Mexico, the centre of the Aztec civilisation, in an Aztec tomb. Barbara is mistaken for the reincarnation of the High Priest Yetaxa (because she is found in his tomb) after she wanders out of the TARDIS and gets locked outside. The time travellers get into a dangerous situation when Barbara tries to use her knowledge of history (she was a history teacher back on earth) to change the whole basis...

Advantages: Educational, easy to read Disadvantages: none
...I used to love this series of books when I was in primary school a couple of years ago, it is easy to read and full of interesting and sometimes gruesome facts. I was only disappointed that my Primary School only had 1 or 2 books from the Horrible History series.
Separated into 9 chapters, including Introduction & Epilogue, and within each chapter are a number of sections, this book is easy to read & collect information from.
Intended for children from 8-11 it strongly goes against teachers and gives children the truth, no matter how gruesome, for example the Aztecs sacrificed 50,000 people a year, that's 1,000 a week, 6 every hour and 1 every 10 minutes, that's man, women & mainly children (because they are more innocent, so the Gods would prefer them)
It also tells you how the Spanish Conquistadors and how they brought small...

Advantages: Catchy, uplifting, got singalongability,a classic of the late 80s early 90s. Disadvantages: None really, unless you dont like this genre of music, in which case you will probably hate it.
...Aztec Camera are the one band that I can not listen to when my husband is home! He absolutely hates them but what he hates more than the actual band is the teen frenzy that they send me into-jumping on the sofa and singing with my hairbrush at the top of my voice!
I must admit that Aztec Camera are not the kind of band that I am normally into. Cheesy, cliche 80s New Wave punk rock that I normally steer clear of, but something about these songs that really blows my hair back...what can I say in my own defence!
The great thing about this album is that although you may think you have never heard of them or their songs, you will recognise loads of their songs from the extensive radio play they had in your childhood. Thus the people that will love this band the most are people who were just descovering music in the early 80s.

To my mind, Julia Donaldson is a wonderful children’s author which is why every time we spot another book of hers (and indeed there are many!) I just have to add it to my daughters’ collection. Our latest addition is Follow the Swallow.
