The vectra, a useful tool for any cyclist
Review of Cateye Vectra Wireless Computer by alimason

Advantages: cheap, relatively easy to install, has many uses
Disadvantages: rather small display, not as many functions as other products

...I've used my vectra quite a bit now and i would reccomend it to any budding cyclist. It is small and relatively easily to install, ensuring that no unecessary mass is added to your bike. Yes, it has its disadvantages which include a lack of functions (such as a heart rate monitor) and during rain or sunny weather it is rather hard to read the display. However overall it prevails. It is a neat bit of kit and is especially useful for those longer cycling trips, where distances and speeds are important to gauge exactly where you are. It is also a good tool for anyone trying to improve their fitness as it is an easy way of ensuring that you complete so much exercise each week. But finally i found the odometer the best function as it can be really satisfying to know that you have cycled over 1000km... Read review

Get on ye bike...
Review of Delta Freeway II Exercise Cycle by vialdana

Advantages: Stable stand, reasonably priced, some good features.
Disadvantages: Pulse ear clip lead catches easily, not as many features as some models.

...without too much effort). It has a very stable base which some others I tried didn’t have, and it has all the controls I need to be able to use a bike. Description of bike and features: A tubular steel framed bike in white, with fixed position stand and adjustable seat height. Handles which can be placed in a fixed position, or which can be linked to the pedals to give a rowing motion for exercising your arms as well. Control to adjust belt friction (thus allowing you to control the resistance when you pedal) Exercise monitor feature which allows you to know your speed, the time you’ve been cycling for, distance travelled, calories burnt (How on earth they work this out I don’t know!), and a pulse monitor which clips to your ear. Oh, and there is a scan mode, so as you are cycling, you can set the monitor to scan through each of the above... Read review

The Couch Potato Strides Out
Review of LifeFitness 4500HR Treadmill by Newfloridian

Advantages: An easy to use, heavy duty aid to personal fitness and well being
Disadvantages: Initially costly but otherwise none

...As mentioned above, I was looking for general fitness and stamina activities rather than body building or major weight loss. I am otherwise reasonably fit, modestly overweight and in late middle age. Following my experience of apparatus at the gym, the most comfortable piece of equipment was the treadmill. It was logical that I should choose such a purchase. The static bike would have been similar, the cross-trainer was somewhat too strenuous and I never did get away with the stair type exerciser (too much like hard work). Rule 1 of regular exercise: be comfortable and happy with the actual apparatus. Work with it and not against it. Get used to it and you will want to come back for more. Exercise should never be seen as a penance – you will soon stop doing it if it is. I am aware there are many makes of treadmill on offer for home use... Read review
