This jacket seems to be indestructible! I have had two both passed down to me from family members so they were already at least 5 years old when I got then and I must have had one for at least 10 years and it is still going strong.
They are nice and waterproof and windproof but you do need to wear a jumper underneath so they are not like a full on winter coat. This is quite good as it makes it an ideal autumn winter and spring coat and you vary the warmth level by the number of under layers.
I rewax my about every three years, you can buy the wax from barbour outlets and some equestrian shops - it costs about £5 for a tin which will last several years - be warned you do not need to put much wax on the jacket overwaxing will make it sticky.
They are good for walking and riding and you can get them in different lengths including the one that goes down to your feet for the real outdoors in all weather person.
The only downside to them is that they are not that smart and you might feel a bit out of place wearing one in a nightclub queue or on the ski slopes but then the people that tend to want one jacket to last for years tend not go with the latest fashions and they are great outdoors coats.
