Advantages: Best fins i have ever used Disadvantages: Very plain looking, everyone has them
...People in the diving world will know about the Oceanic split fin craze, for divers that have use the V12 fins they will know how good they are and all the other divers that haven't used them want too lol. The thing that makes these fins so good is the split in them; non divers might think how can you move yourself along underwater if you have a big split in your fins. Well the answer is better than you can if you don't have a split in your fins. The Oceanic Vortex V12 fins make moving through the water allot easier than with normal fins because for some reason you use less energy and travel faster too (I have no idea how this works it just does lol, take my word for it) I got my fins from my local dive shop for £80 because I was sick of my old Cressi fins
Looks: The Vortex V12's come in one colour, black so they look pretty plain, which...

Advantages: Very strong, powerful, good buckle system Disadvantages: price (although can't complain too much!)
...These fins are among the best I've used - at the moment I prefer the conventional fin design: but I'm slowly investigating the side of twin channel models.
The Plana Avanti Quattro fins are very durable - mine have been through a lot and they still look new, rather than the numerous pairs of fins which look like they've just been discovered in a glacial deposit after a couple of dives!
Propulsion is brilliant (thanks to their "4 channel design") and they present far less stress on the legs than other models I've tried.
The ABS buckle system is great - it endures easy donning of fins (simply slip the strap over the heel and click both sides) - the lock on the side has meant that I have not once had to chase after a fin that decided it wanted to abandon me: and yet they are the easiest fins to take off after a dive... unclip the buckle...

Advantages: Good power generation Disadvantages: Ease of using release clips
...I have always maintained that you have to go a long way to beat a day spent dressed in rubber, breathing through specialist apparatus in a wet, dark environment. A few weeks back my enjoyment was curtailed somewhat when one of my fins cracked open with a large split in them, now it could be argued that a split fin design is the latest fashion however that only really works when the both fins are a split design and the split in your fin does not get bigger with every kick of your leg. One aborted dive later I was thus thrust onto the market for a new set of fins as my back up pair are fine for the odd dive but not for an extended period of diving.
There have been huge developments in fin designs over the past couple of years, each new design making claims of better power, more efficient diving and better manoeuvrability in the water...
