Big Agnes Air Core Mummy Pad - Regular

Advantages: light , quick and easy to inflate/deflate, extremely comfortable
Disadvantages: initial outlay is a little expensive but not unreasonably so.

...This is a sleeping pad and is rather like an inflatable air mattress in many ways. We backpack in many places and our favourite way, when we have the time, is to hike for several days. When we do this we have to carry everything with us that we need and as you can imagine every ounce counts. I must admit that I do like a bit of comfort and the Big Agnes REM Air Core Pad does supply this (REM just stands for ‘rest easy mama). Big Agnes make 2 types of air core pad, the rectangular and the mummy. The mummy pad tapers at the ends and is a similar shape to a coffin. I prefer the rectangular mainly because I like the extra room at my head. We have had ours some time and now they make an insulated version of these pads. .... The front of the pad is where the real modulus technology comes in, and oddly enough where I have my first problem. Now, I'm not in any shape to go into the LBW law of cricket, but save to say that having a distinct panel slap bang in the middle of the pad, kind of lends itself to getting yourself out. If you get hit on this part of the pad, the ball will inevitably leave a mark, making it pretty clear to the umpire *exactly* where the ball hit you. This strip is where the pads get their name. The modules hane a gel foam filled core with extensive air pockets, giving a higher level of cushioning when the ball strikes them. The remainder of the front of the pad is of the same ridges that you will find in 99% of pads on the market. They are designed to deflect the ball more than provide real protection, but perform this function fine... Read review

...Nike Air Shin pads These have got everything along with a big price tag I have worn many shin pads in my time as I play for a local Saturday club. You wouldn't believe it but shin pads are massive part of the game. It is crucial you have sufficient shin pads on while playing a competitive match, well the referee wont let you play with out them any way. The shins are one of the most painful places to get hurt. Shin pads really will stop any damage being made to your shin immediately. If you play football down the park with your mates, without pads on, you will soon see the consequences when those big bruises come up. I buy different shin pads every year, as you can only have a pair for a certain amount of time before they get ripped, smelly, broken or just plain old.
