Advantages: A great read! Disadvantages: A little short!
THE FRONT
MANDASUE HELLER
INTRODUCTION
?The Front?, was the first novel from Mandasue Heller and was published in 2002.
Ms Heller moved to Manchester in 1982. She spent ten years living in a notorious rough area of the city, working as a singer in bands playing on the local pubs and clubs circuit. After a vicious attack on her home she decided to try to fulfil her ambition of becoming a writer.
She had always enjoyed reading crime novels so she wrote about what she knew, about life on the rough estates of Manchester.
Mandasue Heller is billed as being very much like Martina Cole, and I do agree with this comment.
THE STORY
?The Front? starts with Mal, Ged, Sam and Lee, four old friends, who have decided to make some easy money by robbing their local supermarket, on a Manchester estate ...
Advantages: A Haven For Wildlife, Educational For Local Schoolchildren Disadvantages: Industrial Location, Some Vandalism
Anyone who drives up or down the M1 Motorway between Leeds and Nottingham regularly will probably be familiar with what is referred to locally as the Tinsley Viaduct, close to Junction 33 near to the Meadowhall Shopping Complex. This is an area known as Blackburn Meadows.
The name Blackburn Meadows conjures up an image of lovely green pastureland but unfortunately this could not be further ...
Advantages: Very, very bright; Build quality Disadvantages: Large; Ugly
Bike lights have been coming on in leaps and bounds recently, with LEDs starting to be exploited to remarkable effect. The Blackburn have shown the benefits of that evolution to the full with their Quadrant front light.
As it suggests the name Quadrant means there are four LEDs mounted in this space-age looking contraption. If I'm looking to be picky I'll list this here and now as the only drawback to the light - it's ugly, really ugly. And it's pretty big as well (it has to be, it's powered by four AA batteries), though it managed to fit in between some gear levers and a bell on the bars it was mounted on).
But with that out of the way I have to move on to the extensive positives with this light.
I bought it because I'd recently convinced my girlfriend to start commuting to work by bike, but the impending dark nights were ...
