This is a really good product.
Blue chip is a feed balancer (unsurprisingly, given the name!), that you feed alongside your horse or pony's usual feed ration. It is full of all the viatmins and minerals that they need for optimum health. It also offers a yeast culture that supports the action of the hind gut and so should help digestion.
It comes in a small pellet form and is really palatable to the horse. I have never known any horse to refuse it. It is pretty concentrated and so a bag will last quite a long time. I have large natives and each one gets a mug full once daily. Blue Chip produce a measuring cup.
There is also a "diet" version which is great for those with or prone to laminitis as it delivers nutrients without calories. This is really important with animals that have to be on a restricted diet or with small appetites
Blue Chip feed balancer can be used to put condition (substance, not fat) on, or to maintain those in work. It is great for any animal faced with some degree of stress (competition, travelling, needing to gain weight, hard work etc.) and seems to act like a tonic, giving an extra bloom to their coats. Blue Chip's advertising shows an impressive array of equine athletes that are on it as well as the very old or more delicate.
I do not like equines to be fat and this product seems to deliver the "gloss" that often comes with too much condition, but without the health risks.
Blue Chip is not cheap and is the sort of product you would buy from your local merchant rather than being something you would shop around for or find online. However, it does last well and in my opinion helps the horse to thrive (given appropriate husbandry). If this is true, it could well pay for itself in avoided vet or remidal supplement bills. I have used it for yonks and have no intention to stop.
