As Christmas is over, it is now time to forget those eating habits, get back to the exercise and build that muscle back or even burn off all that Turkey and chocolate.
I went to the Gym the other day and it was full to the brim, they come for a week, lose a few pounds then you never see them again. I bet it is because they all have these dumbbells.
Anyway, onto the review.

These weights are ideal for both men and women you can use just the bars as weights for a beginner. These weigh about 2kg each alone so would be enough to tone upper body. You can have any combination that you wish with the above weights from 1kg (not including weight of chrome bar) to 9 kg on each dumbbell. You can actually fit 16kg on each dumbbell if you purchase extra weights. (I will talk about this later)
With these weights you can carry out any exercises that you can carry out with a machine. It is just a case of learning which exercises work which muscle. Once you do that you are on your way to a fitter new you.
Now I have been going to the gym for about 2 years and have built up my strength so these weights are not heavy enough for me alone. So what I have done is looked around and have found that you can buy extra weights from some Tesco shops. You can buy all the weights individually they start from 97p and go up to around £5.97. This is very useful if you find that these weights are too light. You are only allowed to fit 4 weights to either end of the dumbbell and this is where (if you buy extra) you can fit 16kg to each dumbbell; which will allow you to use them for a lot longer as your strength builds.
Here is another little tip: If you go into some Asda' you can get just the 2 spin lock dumbbells alone (without weights) for £4.97. Then go to Tesco and buy the heaviest weights individually so that you are not stuck with smaller weights that you are probably not going to use.
There are three problems that I have experienced with these weights. The first is that that you have to keep unscrewing the star lock when you change the weights, which gets annoying. I used to have a lever system on my old dumbbells; which kept slipping off. So the screw on option is much safer, especially when lifting the weights above your head. The chrome weights are much better as you do not have to keep swapping weights. These are around £350 so this is the cheaper alternative. The second thing that I am not too keen on is the fact that the grips are quite uncomfortable when holding the weights. The skin on you hands gets torn and sore and will eventually go hard. I recommend using proper weights gloves that are designed to stop this. This is a problem with all free weights. I have rated it poor but i would rate all poor. Also the heavier the weight the more you hand tends to hurt. The third thing is that as you are changing the weights around they get knocked and little bits of the blue metallic paint come off. Not a big problem but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Please note ciao members, if you are doing any exercise, please remember to first of all stretch, maintain upright posture and execute the exercises correctly as this may result in injury. Keep your technique tight and not flimsy.
Do not worry if you are hurting the next day, as this is normal. What happens is if you carry out weights you tear muscle (this is where the pain comes from), now your body repairs this tearing naturally. This is where muscle growth comes in. A Whey Protein shake will help this process and in turn build you more muscle. Oh yeah and any injuries as a result of using these weights are the responsibility of the user and not the writer of this review (Pheww glad I put that in, don't want to get sued)

York have an alternative that is which is £24.99 at Argos
So folks Tesco is probably your best bet.
Please note that the box is not very strong that these dumbbells come in so be careful when taking them to the car or carrying them upstairs and it might tear.
Advantages: Solid, Look like they will do the business, Spinlocks keeps weights in place well Disadvantages: Susceptible to rust after long periods, Not heavy enough for veterans, Calluses on palms

These dumbells from Body Sculpture are solid looking, blue and raised bars which do nothing for your calluses. Personally I don't mind getting them as it's a sign that you lift weights and are part and parcel of the whole lifestyle. The bars may make your skin slightly hard and dry but to be honest if you don't like them then weight lifting is probably not for you, for any women not wanting to have tough looking hands, then a plastic set ... ...Also moisturiser applied daily reduces the hardness of the skin.
These were some of my first weights I ever used and are targetted mainly at beginners with the total weight of 18kg easily liftable for people who have been using them for a long period of time (for example several years). Despite being put straight into the garage with my other weights and benches, they are coated with an anti-rust agent which has held up well versus the elements ...

This is a great product if you are looking to tone your body or are a complete beginner.
Using these weights you can tone every major muscle and for those ladies out there who are worried about building muscle, with only 9Kg per dumbell there isnt really enough weight to do this.
To make sure all you need to do is lift a weight that you can complete 15 repetitions of for 3 sets, ... ...set.
If you are looking to build muscle then you need to be working at a much higher intensity whereby you couldnt really lift the weights more than 8 times per set.
The only problem with this equipment is that you will need some gloves to stop your hands becoming sore as being metal they are quite harse, also you dont want hard skin developing on your hands.
As i said earlier, you can work every major muscle with thee weights and here are some ...

These dumb bells are very well made and can hold enough weights for you to build some serious muscle! The weights come in reasonable sizes and you have the ability to mix and match different weights until the dumb bells are set at the right mass for you. They are easily adjusted and the end screw on washers are very sturdy and have never once come off while i have been using them! The only bad thing about these weights is the handle they have in ... ...of solid metal and the grip on it is not great so i find that my hands end up slidding un and down the handle. However this can easily be solved by buying some weight gloves that provide the user with extra grip and enable you to get the skin on your hands blister free while working some serious muscle up in your arms! Overall i feel that these weights are great value for money and since using them for around 10minutes every night for the past month ...
