Advantages: stable and versatile....did I mention stable (Its excellent) Disadvantages: A bit costly, the weights you will need are expensive.
attachment
Ok maybe I was a little hasty saying the leg extention was the only attachment worth having. You also have the option of a preacher curl attachment, which while not essential, is quite a useful attachment. For those that don't know, a preacher curl attachment is basically a pad that you can rest your arms on whilst doing a bicep curl. The idea behind it is it stops any movement of the body helping to perform the lift (the body naturally tries to move to give the bicep a helping hand). The preacher curl attachment therefore focusses all the effort of the lift purely on the bicep muscle, aiding its development. The preacher curl attachment will set you back a further £70 as an add on.

For me the most important aspect of a bench is the fact that it feels stable. Well ...
Every year at half term we take the wooden garden furniture in , so last week into the conservatory went the garden bench. It will stay here until we get the summer here. June time we take our picnic bench /table out of hibernation from the conservatory. We position it on the patio and celebrate the summer by sitting on it while consuming a cup of tea.

We have owned this bench for about 15 years now. The bench / table that we have is still in good order. The wood may be a looking a little older. I expect it will eventually decay. I think it is made of pine wood.
This picnic table looks like ones you get in pub gardens although the ones in pubs do not fold up into a bench.
The simple mechanism ...
Advantages: easy to assemble Disadvantages: the design could be improved
During my gap year from sixth form to university I got a job as a lifeguard at the local sports centre and as a consequence spent a lot of time in the gym. I puchased a york 6605 weights bench so I could workout at home instead of travelling to and from the gym on my days off. It was reasonably straightforward to assemble and at first I was delighted with it. However, after using it a few times I began to notice the design faults. Firstly, when doing leg curls, especially quadricep raises it was hurting my shins, I don't think it was designed with tall people in mind (im 6ft 1'). Because of this I had to place something on the seat to elevate my vertical position. The second problem was the bench press. This was fine when performing flat or decline bench presses, but when performing incline ones it is very hard to lift the weights off ...
