Boilies, carp anglers love em, all i ever hear from my fishing buddies is "have you tried those new xxxx boilies??" and "my mate caught a 23 pounder on these boilies" but why?? Boilies are essentially just a mixture of powdered proteins ect mixed with egg and boiled so why do so many fish love em?? The truth is not many people know but one of the reasons could be because of the high nutritional value contained in many top brands and another may be because even if you were to dangle a fluff ball right inm front of a carp's nose chances are they would bite it. Boilies are very versitile as the come in both sinking and floating varieties, they come in roughly 5 different sizes (can be cut to any shape/size) and come in thousands of flavours from crab & mussel to whisky and chocolate, the truth is they are one of the best baits around and i cant see why so many "traditional carp anglers" will not use them, my betting is they would catch a hell of a lot more if they just gave them a try.
Just in case you want to give them a try they can be brought from your local fising shop for between £3 and £10 or you could make your own:
500g of powdered semolina 500g of soya flour 4 eggs choice of flavourings, colours and sweeteners ect.
Mix your two powders into a bowl along with your flavourings and colours then slowl;y beat in one egg at a time, until a thick paste is made (add a little flour if to runny, a little milk if too dry) then use a rolling table and boilie gun if you've got them if not roll by hand into desired shape and size (roll them small as they can xpand a little) then bring a saucepan of water to the boil and put you boilies in for roughly 2 mins. At this stage you could add flavours to the boiling water as well. Drain the boilies off let them cool then seal in an airtight container or if allowed freeze them.
Flavours can be brought from a fishing shop but here are some of my own which can be brought from tesco ect. Curry powder or paprika for winter Golden or maple syrup liquidized hot dogs liquidized sweetcorn strawberry jam(melted down mixed with a little milk) a mixture of brazil nuts and unsalted peanuts I always add birdseed to my boilies which contains hempseed and linseed fishlove it.

(+) Cheap to do when done correctly, good results. (-) FEAR FACTOR - You will look silly if you do it without results. Difficult to carry a large amount.
Advantages: Saves Money on shop bought popups and popup mixes and make as many as you like without breaking the bank Disadvantages: Stinks the Kitchen and upsets the missus
