I purchased my Great Big Bertha from American Golf Discount just over a year ago. I had been looking into updating my driver for a while. I previously owned a 10 degree Big Bertha Steelhead.
I tried 3 drivers the day I got the Great Big Bertha. They were apart from the GBB, a Titleist and a Ping driver. Each of them had a 10 degree loft and a firm flexshaft. The differnce in price across the different drivers were about £150. The Ping being the cheapest and the GBB being the most expensive. Because I had already owned a Callaway Driver I knew of the quality and service you get from Callaway but I wanted to try other brands because the technology had come along way and price was also a factor.
After hitting each club on the driving range and using a computerto see how the drives went it became clear that the GBB was going straighter and longer than the other 2. I was impressed by the distance I was getting. The club felt comfortable behind the ball at address and when you swing it feels balanced and smooth.
There were 2 options when purchasing the Great Big Bertha. One option is the standard Great Big Bertha or the other option is the Great Big Bertha Plus+. The plus version does not conform to USGA rules but unless you are living in the US or playing in serious competitions I don't think it is a problem.
I decided to purchase the standard Great Big Bertha and not the Plus+. The main reason is I would of had to wait for the Plus+ to be ordered and it would of took about 2 weeks.
Like I said earlier I have had the driver for over a year and I have used it in all sorts of weather. It pings off the face sweet and true (even if you don't quite catch it right), the grip is still tacky and soft in the hands with no sign of wear. I must admit though, about 6 months after purchasing the club it dropped in price by about £100 and now can pick it up for less than half. Typical of todays world, you buy something one day and it's obsolete the next.
I would advise if you are thinking about buying this club is to try a few and find a brand you feel comfortable with and priced in your range. I would however, recommend this club because I think for £130 it is still one of the best drivers available today.
