Well where to begin? This camera is everything a first time, or even an intermediate, Digital Camera owner could ask for? Well if I were to be critical I would suggest a camera case and a larger memory card as the one that it comes with is really too small to do much with other than just ... ...So what the hell is this 3.2 Mega Pixels?
3.2 Mega pixels is the resolution quality of the camera, this in itself means very little to someone who hasn’t spent their life in front of computer monitors and if you have then you almost certainly already have a fairly good idea of what this means. For the rest of us, it is an indication of the picture quality, the higher the number of mega pixels, the better the quality of the picture. To give you an ...

Advantages: Easy to use, excellent photographs. Disadvantages: No protective case.
...search I plumped for the Canon Powershot A70. Basically this is a 3.2 megapixel quality camera with 3 x optical zoom with a further 3.2 x digital zoom to enhance your pictures by 9.6 x their original state.
I will try to explain what all the technical jargon means. A pixel is a single point on a PC monitor, picture or to simplify things a little a TV screen. All these dots are then joined together to produce your photograph or image as with a TV ... ...image you can produce without losing clarity. In the form of a 3.2 megapixel camera it can produce an image that is 2048 x 1536 giving you 3,145,728 pixels, giving you your 3.2 mega (or million) pixel image. I have explained this in basic terms, as I am not a photographer but understand the basics of pixel quality. The image captured is in jpeg or jpg mode that again is the standard for most web sites or image capturing software.
The camera itself ...

Advantages: Lasted a long time, good presets, 3.2mega pixels (plenty for casual use) Disadvantages: Large in comparison to newer models, develops a fault after a few years, quite slow
This little beauty (the Canon PowerShot A70) has been to hell and back with me. Well not quite 'hell', but Italy, France, and several states in the US, and has barely a mark to show for it. Yesterday its successor arrived, so I'm writing this review as its obituary! (And I'll get on to why it needed a successor in due course.)
We bought this camera a long time ago, when it was one of the newest models around. It's possibly five or six years, or ... ...worth the £200 or so it cost new. At 3.2 Mega pixels, this seems pathetic by today's standards, and there are phone cameras that can rival it, but 3.2 mega pixels have served as plenty for a casual photographer, while still producing pictures of a very professional quality. If you all you are going to do is view photos on your computer, and print out the occasional one, do you really need photos that take up 3 or 4 megabytes by themselves, because ...

Advantages: Good functions that you might find on a basic SLR Disadvantages: Uses four batteries, LCD screen is easily scratched
Appearance:
The Canon Powershot A70 has a silver & grey brushed metal-effect plastic body. Most buttons & dials are set well into the body & so avoid most knocks & snags. The lens is retracted when powered down. The battery and memory card slots are well designed & are not likely to break easily (but not indestructible!). There is a digital A/V out & DC in section, which has a rubber cover. A DC power supply plug is not included. This cover fits ... ...with constant use it might begin to wear. The LCD screen is approx. 2.25 x 3cm & is flush to the back of the camera. The camera is designed to fit comfortably in the right hand. I'm not sure if this is a problem for left-handed people or not. On the bottom of the camera, there is a screw recess to accept a trip attachment. A wrist strap was supplied with my kit, but I really would have preferred a neck strap. Sadly these days, you never seem to get ...

...and finally decide on the Canon A70.
Firstly i bought this from Amazon for £244.99 and it came with a free 64MB memory card. As of today (30th June) this offer was still on.
It is extremely important that you consider what YOU want when buying a digital camera, as a camera that is great for one person may not suit another. So why did i buy the A70 i hear you ask. Mainly because in this price range £230-£270, for a 3.2 Megapixel camera it is unrivalled ... ...recommend you go to the Canon website for full specifications

Upon first using the camera i found it very easy to use and navigate but did have to refer to the manual to learn the hoards of advanced features.
Another thing i was concerned about when purchasing a digital camera was battery life. I'd previously used my parents Sony DSC P50 which is a nice camera but the battery life was terrible. ...

Advantages: Good serious learner's camera that can also be used for easy snaps Disadvantages: Not quite pocket-sized
...-- In summary:
The A75 is an incremental upgrade of the popular CanonPowerShotA70. It is one of a few small cameras that provides proper manual control of the settings as well as having a fully automatic mode. A good range of optional accessories make it a safe long-term choice. A few features common in Canon cameras, like customisable sound themes, are a bit of gimmick but don't detract from the value. The video is adequate for clips of slow-moving scenes.
-- Background on me the reviewer, so you know my tastes and prejudices:
I've had this camera a few days, taken over 200 pictures covering day, night, dusk, bright sun, cloud, indoors and outdoors. I'm a complete amateur, but my past experience is with three very different 35mm film cameras we have had in the family: a Yashica Minitec point-and-shoot, a Pentax Optio 115 zoom...

...Main features of the digital camera SAMSUNG NV24HD (New Vision 24 High Definition):
-- very compact and flat
-- Ultra-wide angle 24mm: brilliant!
-- Very good sensitivity and super video quality photos (nickel up to 400 ISO included)

-- Screen AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) very accurate, very colorful, true in the colors and with a very wide angle of vision: fabulous, unique and unrivalled at the moment!
-- Protective glass screen in polycarbonate hardened and anti-reflection (nothing to do with my old CanonPowerShotA70!)
-- "Selection matrix" parameters (for me, much better than the "rose" traditional)

-- Shooting burst (as on the FX500...

Manufacturer's product description
The Canon PowerShot A70 gives you all the benefits of digital photography in an easy to use package. You can shoot, review, and then share your photos far more quickly and conveniently than was ever possible with analog. The PowerShot A70 has a 3.2-million pixel sensor which lets you print with total clarity in sizes up to A4. Its zoom lens can bring objects approximately 10x closer (with combined optical and digital zoom). Canon's DIGIC processor works ultra fast to process all the camera's electronic functions simultaneously, from Auto White Balance to Autofocus. It also lets you shoot at a fast 2.5 frames per second, but because it works so quickly, the processor uses less power, so the battery lasts longer. With Canon's AiAF five point auto focus system, any subject in the foreground of the scene is accurately focused even if it is not in the center of the frame. If you want to focus on something further away, you can also override this feature. Canon's direct print function allows you to plug the camera straight into the printer, so you can print without a computer. You can also plug the PowerShot A70 straight into your TV, or import the pictures into your computer and send them via e-mail. The Canon PowerShot A70 is the ideal camera for capturing family activities or for people wishing to explore the possibilities of Digital Photography. The camera allows any enthusiastic beginner to record and share their experiences with loved ones, spontaneously and economically.
