Blazing Saddles was first released in 1974 and directed by Mel Brooks. I saw this film a good few years ago and loved it the moment I saw it. It isn't a typical cowboy movie like you first expect when it begins and truly is a pleasure to watch. For this reason, this DVD was another one that I asked for at Christmas time and another that I am thankful to have received. Blazing Saddles tells the seemingly simple story of how a railroad is bound to run right through the town of Rock Ridge and that once it does land there will be worth an absolute fortune. There is only one problem, the townsfolk already own their land and so they only thing you can do is drive them out. But how on earth do you do that? Well it's common sense really? you send in a rough and tough gang all gun's blazing but first you appoint the town with a new sheriff ...

Review of Blazing Saddles (DVD)

Double the filling please

Advantages: Cremay chocolate, nice taste
Disadvantages: not filled

the beloved Crème Eggs and so not long after Easter I had to wait for Christmas to finish before sampling another. In fact I had to wait longer as I keep on getting free Crème Eggs (but I am NOT complaining about that, free Crème Eggs are damn good). I waited until the 3 for £1 deals started then swooped in to sample all the new filled eggs that have been released on the unsuspecting consumer this year. The Double Cream Egg can be bought singly for between 35p and 50p or in packs of three for a little over £1. Most major supermarkets and newsagents seem to stock them. Unlike the Crème Egg or the Mars Egg Nestle have opted to package their eggs in little pouches not dissimilar to the pouch that Walnut Whips come in. Review of Nestle Double Cream Egg

This is stardust, this is golden

Advantages: a musical record of a gentler time
Disadvantages: may be too laid back for some

Ladies of the Canyon came out in 1971, Joni Mitchell was becoming a big name, immediately successful on the radio and selling swiftly in the first few months this, her third album, eventually sold half a million copies to make it her first gold album. So what is it that makes Joni Mitchell such an original and well-respected musical name? Well on this album it's the understated sparseness of the folk sound that she helped to promote coupled with one of the most admired voices of that era, or indeed any era. When you read the list of musicians on the CD's back cover, you realise that what you are going to get is by and large Mitchell herself with very little in the way of a band.
