Advantages: Great for stroppy youngsters!! Disadvantages: Should not tie horses up with Be Nice on.
...The Be Nice Headcollar is a rope style headcollar designed by Monty Roberts. It helps to cure and prevent a horse from rearing, it does this by having 5/6 brass oval shapes built in the rope across the poll (top of head), applying pressure to the poll should the horse rear.
This form of headcollar has been re-manufactured by various different companies but this is the one which I would recommend. I use the Be Nice everyday on my youngster who is only 3, I started using it about a year ago when she started to get strong and did start to rear. Since using the Be Nice I find that it helps imensly.
Do make sure that when using the BeNice pressure should only be applied when the horse starts to go up and lags behind you when leading/loading as soon as the horse takes a step forward, pressure should be loosen to show the horse that when...

Advantages: Easy to change bit. Disadvantages: Not so easy to change reins.
...on the brow band. This is basically a small metal badge embedded into the leather, on either side of the browband, where it attaches to the rest of the bridle. The buckles are all brass which is nice. Most are stainless steel, but I think brass looks smarter. The reason it is called a training bridle is that, where the bit attaches, there is a brass clip, taking seconds to unclip the bit. Usually it is a buckle and the leather can sometimes stiffen a little after it gets wet, which can make it difficult to undo. (Yes I do clean my tack, but not as often as I should). Barnsby is a well known name in horse leatherwork. Whitaker is the surname of a showjumping family. They are selling various horsey items. I am assuming that they have both made this bridle together, hence the name.
Usefulness.

...I have already written a review about Cottage Craft Headcollars, but the webbing version. I also have a leather one, a Cottage Craft Padded Leather Headcollar. My other review explains what a headcollar is usually used for, this review is to discuss why use leather.

The Cottage Craft Padded Leather Headcollar is leather available in black or havana. I have a black one. It has a bit of padding over the crown and nose. Leather headcollars are made fairly thick, thicker than bridles, so they can be quite stiff. The padding is for the horses comfort. It is a smart looking headcollar, priced at £19.99 and has brass fittings. There is a clip on the right hand side attaching the throat piece to the headpiece which looks smart and may...
