Its a snap for this Powerchain

Advantages: Cheap, shifts well, excellent joining link
Disadvantages: Can suffer chain breakages

...I only ever use an SRAM powerlink to do so. I do replace chains/cogs/crank rings before they are badly worn, and my chain gets cleaned and lubed after every muddy ride. 951, 971 or 991? SRAM produce 3 flavours of this chain. The 951, 971 and 991. Bigger numbers equals extra cash. The 991 is around £10 more expensive than the 951. The only difference between them is the anti-corrosion nickel coating on the more expensive chains. Otherwise they ...
...shiny. Powerlink The SRAM powerlink is the jewel in the crown for this chain. SRAM powerlinks make chain joining a breeze. Use your chain tool to cut chain to length, feed chain through derailleurs, slip powerlink in place, and pull chain to snap powerlink into position. There is a knack to removing the powerlink but once mastered, it is fairly straightforward. Essentially you have to press the links together with finger and thumb, whilst ...

M532 Chainset + external Bottom Bracket

Advantages: built in external BB, good quality
Disadvantages: None

...SR Suntour cranks and stock Shimano Bottom Bracket on my Trek 4300. A fantastic upgrade, extremely sturdy, nice stiff cranks, excellent machine work. And to top it off, no internal Bottom Bracket is needed. Something I dont think a lot of the adverts for the item make enough of. You don't need to bother measuring your spindle as you just need to remove the entire bottom bracket and fit the M532 with the inbuilt external BB. You will need additional ...
...relatively cheaply and you never need to worry about wearing out any bearings in the bottom bracket again. It took me 15 minutes to fit, simply remove your old cranks, remove the BB and slot this in place. It comes with various spacers to adjust the width depending on your frame size and once fitted it'll feel like a new bike. It also come sin 170mm and 175mm versions. A great buy. ...

White Lightning Original Lubricant

Advantages: Easy to apply and doesn't attract Dirt
Disadvantages: Slightly more expensive than others

...the bike a grimy mess. White Lightning is a wax-based chain lube that attempts to address this issue. It lubricates and protects the chain but also adheres well, without attracting dirt buildup. White Lightning is available in liquid or spray bottles. It also comes in a "Race Day" version. My experience is limited to the original formula in the bottle. Wax has been used for chain lubrication for some time. Some early wax chain lubes required the ...
...was time consuming and wasteful. White Lightning (and now other wax lubes) simplifies the process by immersing the wax in a solution for simple application. After application, the liquid "carrier" evaporates leaving a thin coat of wax behind. The remaining wax works well as a chain lubricant but attracts far less dirt and grime than lubricants that leave oily residues on the chain. Prior to applying White Lightning, it is important to clean the chain ...

Finishline Wet Lubricant

Advantages: Doesn't wash off in wet conditions
Disadvantages: Does attract dirt and mud

Before reading this review, it is necessary to understand a bit about bicycle lubricants. There are a number of different kinds, each with their advantages and disadvantages. The first, most basic kind is the venerable wet lubricant, which is petroleum-based. Such lubricants have been around in one form or another for over 100 years. They work well over a wide temperature range, and are water-resistant, but they collect dirt. For this reason, wet ...
...for bad weather and off-road riding. The second kind of lube in common use is a dry lube, which is a wax-based lubricant. Such lubricants are designed to repel dirt, particularly from bicycle chains. But they do so by flaking off as you ride, which requires you to apply them more frequently than wet lubes. They also must be applied while the bike is warm and don't lubricate well in cold weather. This makes them terrific for off-road riding in warm ...
