Advantages: Very good grip, especiallly in winter. Disadvantages: Only the cost.
Before I bought my latest car, I obvoiusly checked the tyres, both for tread, and wear, I noticed that they were all Pirellis. However, what I did not look at was the type, These were WINTERtyres, and that caused me to think if they were the right ones fo all year round. I researched on the net, and found that these were about the best gripping tyres you can get for snow, but was also pleased to see that they offered very good grip in the dry. I am well pleased with them so far, although I cannot comment on their performance on snow or ice as of yet.
They are on very nice Vauxhall alloys, with the balancing weights went on the inside, just as they should be, why is it some fitters fit them on the outside?
Having shopped around, locally and on the internet, I found many places selling bargain price tyres, but you must pay ...
Advantages: Grip in wet. Roadholding. Disadvantages: Price is always a disadvantage, but not too expensive in this case.
I write this review from my own experience, I have gone into a corner too fast and left the road. Nothing to do with the tyres, it was all my fault, and I was just glad the tyres were as good as they were, otherwise I may not have been here to tell the tale. I have been driving cars for 32 years and trucks just thirty. I have had a few skids in that time, (before ABS) and think that tyres are more important than steering or brakes.
For the first time in my life, I have bought a full set of tyres for my car, and my choice was Continentals. The actual model (Conti Premium Contact) was chosen by my ex boss who is in the tyre trade, and I trust him.
I was unimpressed by the fact that my tyres being sixteen inch were more expensive than fifteen, or even seventeens! Apparently this is due to supply and demand, they don't make ...
Advantages: Hard wearing, gatorskin versions are almost puncture proof! Disadvantages: Not a lot!
I've used the conti gatorskin version of this tyre (known as 4season) since it was launched. I've just had to buy a new pair - so the wear rate is remarkably low, and I still can ride the current pair, it is just by the end of the winter I know I will need new ones.
I only use them for winter training, but as I ride for a racing club, this does mean I clock up a fair few miles over the course of a winter.
Conti are one of the few manufacturers to use a natural based rubber compound. "So what?" I hear you ask!
Well, this means they stick to the road more in wet conditions. Thus, if you are training in winter or commuting to work, this attribute is vital.
I have not (so far) had a puncture with them, which says a lot. I do run them with latex inner tubes which obviously helps, but the combination is fantastic. The light weight ...
