Advantages: Cheap. Disadvantages: No nose or throat adjustment.
...that they don`t break if a horse gets caught, the link is more likely to break, or the horse to sustain an injury. I have only seen one injury when the horse was left in the stable (not mine) for a very short length of time. The horse managed to catch the headcollar on something on the stable door resulting in a visit from the vet and stitches in the face of the horse. So, whilst it is unlikely for the horse to sustain an injury from the headcollar, it does happen, so for this reason I tend to remove it unless I am leading or tying up.

Advantages: Looks nice. Disadvantages: A bit more expensive.
...I have already written a review about CottageCraft Headcollars, but the webbing version. I also have a leather one, a CottageCraft Padded Leather Headcollar. My other review explains what a headcollar is usually used for, this review is to discuss why use leather.

The CottageCraft Padded Leather Headcollar is leather available in black or havana. I have a black one. It has a bit of padding over the crown and nose. Leather headcollars are made fairly thick, thicker than bridles, so they can be quite stiff. The padding is for the horses comfort. It is a smart looking headcollar, priced at £19.99 and has brass fittings. There is a clip on the right hand side attaching the throat piece to the headpiece which looks smart and may...

Advantages: Minimises wastage Disadvantages: Horses manage to pull all the hay through the hole!
...On deciding that both my horses waste soooo much hay during the winter when they eat through standard haynets I decided to have a look around in catalogues to see if there was a solution!
I came across the cottagecraft feed bag and thought it might solve all my problems!!
It opted for the large as both my horses are over 16.2hh! and eat alot of hay and hayledge and it seemed to be ideal.
The price wasnt too bad for something which was going to be an experiment so I bought two, they only came in green which was a bit poor considering cottagecraft have been going for years and yet you had a choice of one colour!
It is certainly hardwearing and durable considering they get tugged at alot and they werent hard to fill which saves a bit of time as normal haynets can get knotted.
However, my horses managed to pull out their hay all in one go...
