(+) Cheap to do when done correctly, good results. (-) FEAR FACTOR - You will look silly if you do it without results. Difficult to carry a large amount.
These as a bait are for the more specialised fisherman or woman, you use these when targeting a specific species.
They are full of strong scent which is an excellent plus for seafishing, Use these to target big Bass, Pollack, Tope, Cod etc as a bait these will produe but usually only when they are classed as Peelers (ie they are molting their shell) you can buy them as either alive, or frozen bait both work exceptionally well in either form.
The ... ...without bait elastic you will not keep them on the hook long enough to cast it out or they will fly off upon casting.
Give them a good wrapping of bait elastic and they will handle a fairly powerful cast with ease.
If you use them never put your rod either on the side of a boat or in a loose fitting rod rest as 9 times out of 10 the bite when it comes will be big and vicious.
To collect live is hard but achievable, put down some half water pipes ...

Advantages: Easy to use and all of the yucky work has been done for you Disadvantages: Fish don't bite them.
..."A new breakthrough in crab bait technology, for sea and course anglers alike" they said.
"We can now offer fresh crab that does not decay for several days" they said.
"Stays firmly on the hook during power casting" they said.
"All the catching power and odour of fresh crab" they said
I believed them.
Unfortunately, no-one told the fish.
What is it? In short, these are small bits of soft, crab putty, held together by a wee bit of net.
These are supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have yet to find out what WAS the greatest thing BEFORE sliced bread, but I am sure that it wasn't these things.
I was just about to write that they are PANTS when a thought occurred to me. Perhaps I would have a better chance of catching fish if I used my pants as bait instead of this rubbish? Maybe next time.
At 11 quid...

Advantages: safe bit of gear, great forwall use and beginners Disadvantages: can just be awkward and annoying - especially outdoors
...just before i begin, just like to point out those who dont climb might not understand much of what im taking about. sorry, it just really helps if you do.
i brought the belay master to help keep rope and stuff that little bit tidier on those long multi-pitch routes.
it basically consists of two parts, an HMS screw gate and a strange little plastic bit that clips over both sides to divide the crab in half along its length
the HMS screw gate is actually that little bit heavier than other gates on the market (only by a few grams, but it all adds up!). but feeling it in your hand, it becomes clear that it is a strong robust piece of kit. and it does what every screw gate on the market does, and is built to a very high standard. however, compared to other HMS gates this one is a little smaller and so the gates opening arc is a little...

Advantages: very versitile bait Disadvantages: not many i can think of
...Boilies, carp anglers love em, all i ever hear from my fishing buddies is "have you tried those new xxxx boilies??" and "my mate caught a 23 pounder on these boilies" but why??
Boilies are essentially just a mixture of powdered proteins ect mixed with egg and boiled so why do so many fish love em?? The truth is not many people know but one of the reasons could be because of the high nutritional value contained in many top brands and another may be because even if you were to dangle a fluff ball right inm front of a carp's nose chances are they would bite it.
Boilies are very versitile as the come in both sinking and floating varieties, they come in roughly 5 different sizes (can be cut to any shape/size) and come in thousands of flavours from crab & mussel to whisky and chocolate, the truth is they are one of the best baits around...
