Why should you pay £35 pounds for a pair of trousers? it is a good question and i still cannot work out the answer.
About Craghoppers --------------------------- Craghoppers were founded in 1965 in Batley, West Yorkshire, UK and they built up a reputation for desgining high quality outdoor clothing aimed at all-weather outdoor enthusiasts. Craghoppers were bought up in 1995 and after considerable investment in product and design, the brand was re-launched.
Craghoppers Kiwi Trousers -------------------------------------- Crag Hoppers Men's Kiwi Trousers are a trouser made out of SolarDry polyester cotton with a SmartDry finish. Now that wont make a lot of sense to a lot of people so i will tell you about SolarDry and SmartDry. Basically SolarDry is a fabric which help protect your body from the harmful effects of the sun. SolarDry offers levels of UV protection which has been tested. Different level of SolarDry can be obtained in: Yellow Sun Symbol - High UPF Factor Orange Sun Symbol - Very High UPF Factor Red Sun Symbol - Excellent UPF Factor *UPF Factor = Ultralight Protective Factor (sometimes known as CPF - Colthing Protection Factor). The SmartDry fabric helps the trousers dry quicker then most fabrics through a "Permanent Moisture Movement" system in which the fabrics move the water from inside the fabric to the surface to the outer for quick evaporation. Also, the SmartDry adds a water repellency to the trousers which lasts about 5 minutes of rain and then penetrates with a really damp cold effect. Thats the technical side of the trousers aside, and now to the practical side of the review. The trousers have 8 pockets including zipped rear pockets. Having a lot of pockets can be a great advantage as you can always find things small enough to fill the pockets. There is a webbing belt already on the trousers which is pretty poor and i would recommend using your own belt. The trousers have re-inforced knees and rear which supposedly help the trouser not wear as quickly as others. This is a bit of a farce as after one fall, the knees have got a hole in and white wear they have been scuffed. They are meant to be outdoor activity trousers and after one fall they are basically runined from being warn as trousers for other activitys again, even though they are very comfortable. Overall, these trousers are aesthetically attractive and are very posh looking. They come in graphite,Stone,Dark Navy,Dark Cactus,Bark and Black. Incidently i own the graphite colour which is a nice colour to go with all collours espicially black! I paid £17.50 for my trousers because of "managers discount" at Blacks due to me getting them for "uniform purposes" - yeh right! But seriously, shop around as you can pick up a pair of these for around £30 off various websites. Personally, i would not recommend these trousers unless you are going to lots of foreign country where the sun rays will be strong, but for walking in the UK, the advantages of these trousers will be wasted and you can always pick up a pair of acceptable trousers for walking for around £10.
Advantages: Lightweight and comfortable Disadvantages: Inclusive belt isn't the best
If you're looking for some lightweight, comfortable walking trousers but don't want to break the bank then these are a pretty good purchase. With an average retail price of £30 - £35 they are a good few quid cheaper than some of the more fashionable brands but retain the quality of an established company.
With more pockets than you would have stuff to put in them these trousers are an excellent choice for the outdoor enthusiast and achieve a successful ... ...you to the Arctic they are warm, comfortable, light and quick drying.
These trousers also look pretty' good. Whilst arguably pretty low down on your list of priorities when you're up a mountain, they're actually casual enough that you wouldn't look foolish or too out of place in the pub on your way home.
The belt that they come with seems a little suspect and I would probably advise replacing with a more substantial one as far as negatives go I ...
