I work many nights, and I've got to that certain age where at a certain time of the night my feet just explode in size, I spend much of the night in agony and often am forced to kick off my shoes in anger, before moaning to all and sundry about my poor feet.

A combination of two things the movie Idiocracy, and Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice (as well as the odd review) bought me into the new millennium and the craze that is Crocs! The style of footwear I'm referring too here are known as Caymen (the female version being called Mary Jane's). These ultra comfortable foam style footwear have got to be the most comfortable things I have EVER put on my feet. When your feet ache, what seems like endlessly it's hard to describe the pleasure of putting something on them that feels like you're walking on air. When you get problems with aching feet it is quite literally better than sex.

For the most part Crocs tend to be worn by women, but over recent years the trend for men wearing them has grown, I think it's a combination of trend setting meeting with comfort. The downside with Crocs are that they look absolutely ridiculous, indeed if you had tried wearing these 10 years ago you might very well have been stabbed to death by some sort of crazed maniac, 20 years ago when I had been at school I would have been on the back end of endless abuse for this; but it seems that quite often nowadays the more you look like a clown the more likely you are as being accepted. Clown would be an appropriate comparison, because you really do look like you have someone else's feet on, or better still ducks feet.

Crocs are designed that the foam kind of moulds to your feet, but not only this they have an orthopaedic base to them which consist of a variety of small soft spikes, they look like they might be uncomfortable but this is honestly not the case. Unlike a lot of other foam style footwear however Crocs are slip resistant, I actually know that some of the hotels in my group are issuing them to kitchen staff, because from a health and safety aspect they are pretty much the safest footwear to have on wet floors. Thankfully I don't have smelly feet, but I'm informed that if you do have smelly feet then none of that stays in the shoe, making them an odourless if not rubbery smelling piece of footwear. One final point is that these are incredibly lightweight I'd go as far as to say probably the equivalent weight as a pound coin (per shoe).

I bought my Crocs about a month ago, and in fairness they are not the sort of footwear for this type of year, they have ventilation holes which in minus degree temperatures are not exactly inviting. And with socks they look ridiculous, though when everyone has gone away at work I put them on while I'm sat balancing the accounts. I wear them round the house, in the garden, and to the post box, though have not ventured anywhere really public in them yet. But there comes a time when comfort overcomes all other things, and when the summer comes I'll proudly wear these into town, or down the village; the clown factor of the shoes complementing my face. So far in my months wear (about 15 night shifts) and general walking around, they are showing little sign of wear; and while normally I'd wait longer to review a piece of footwear in case they fall about for the nominal funds I paid for them £29.99 if they fell apart tomorrow I would not care because they have made my feet so much more comfortable. I can say people I know who bought them last summer are still wearing them now, and still happy with them.

In case you're wondering about if they get wet (rain or on holiday on the beach etc), basically the result of getting wet is they basically do, but fundamentally nothing changes they don't get uncomfortable, the shape does not warp, they are the same shoe but wetter. How long they take to dry depends on the weather really.

Crocs Cayman shoes come in the following colours:- Black, pearl, chocolate, khaki, army green, Kelly green, lime, sage, celery, navy, peacock, sea blue, turquoise, light blue, sea foam, grape, lavender, ruby red, red, fuchsia, pink, cotton candy, orange, white, canvas pantone, pulse and mango. Shoe sizes for men range from 4 to 13, while the women's range from 3 to 12.

If you like to have comfortable feet, and don't really care what people think about how you look; think no more get some of these today and believe me you'll not turn back. I'm happy to report the swelling at night has reduced in my feet by more than half and continue to do so.

Crocs are available from leading high street shoe stores and Littlewoods online (and catalogue).
