I love Crocs. I'm rapidly collecting them in different styles and colours and I'm doing my best to convert the world as I go. Here comes the info..... WHAT ARE THEY?
They're shoes Jim, but not as we know them. To all intents and purposes they are beach shoes that have been moulded out of croslite material, (sorry, can't give you the chemical composition as it's a patented product) which gives them some remarkable properties. When you wear your Crocs the warmth from your feet gradually moulds the bed of the shoe to your foot, giving you the most comfortable footwear ever. They have been made with little nubbins in the sole to stimulate the bloodflow to your feet and I've found these give you a mini massage as you walk. They also claim to be anti-microbial. The best bit about Crocs is that they are completely waterproof and they are so light that they float - the best way to wash these things is to chuck them into some warm water, play battleships with them for a while then dry them off and go have fun again.
BUT THEY LOOK WEIRD.....
Caymans do, but Crocs soon realised that the market was much larger than people wanting an all weather alternative to beach shoes and they have developed lots of different shoes using the same material and production methods. My favourites so far are the Sassari Crocs - these are a girly wedgy shoe that are smart enough to wear to all sorts of garden parties, barbeques and even to work, but you don't get the horrible burning in the ball of your foot and you can actually stand in them for hours without your feet complaining. I also have Primas, a very lightweight ballet-type shoe, and Capri, the most comfy flip flop you will ever come across. There are also styles for working in, geared towards both the on-your-feet medical and catering professions (eg; Professional) and office workers (Mary Jane and Alice), and for wet weather (Georgie boots), cold weather (Mammoths and Nadia boots) and lots of flip flop types, like Capri, Athens and Ithica. They have even developed the Cyprus - a heeled shoe that even I have to admit looks a trifle odd. In America they have released You by Crocs - more normal looking shoes that use the Crocs technology with more conventional footwear to offer more comfort in your fashion. DO THEY ONLY COME IN DAY-GLO COLOURS?
No, luckily the boffins at Crocs offer some more colour alternatives to the radioactive versions you might be more familar with. My Caymans are a rather fetching pale lavender, while the fella went all army-esque and bought the khaki ones to go with his camoflage shorts. Some of the combinations are a bit odd - my least favourite has to be the Sassari in mango and canvas, although a close second is the same shoe in red and silver. For the footy fans out there you can buy Caymans in the style of some premier league football clubs - have a look at the Europe website for more details. DO THEY COST A LOT?
No more than a decent quality pair of trainers or evening shoes and the wear that you will get out of them more than makes up for the initial outlay. My little Primas cost just £16, while my Sassaris were £25. Check for sales and end of lines at your nearest retailer and you will grab a bargain. There are other shoes out there that are of the Crocs type that do cost less than the brand, but having tried some of these in-store I found them rigid, plastic-y and quite uncomfortable. The real thing is comfy from the moment you put it on and personally, I accept no substitutes.
CUSTOMER SERVICE? Yes, in that they respond quickly to queries and are good at letting you know when a new product is released via their newsletter system. My only gripe is that while planning our wedding I approached Crocs to ask if they would consider doing an all-white (or Pearl!) Sassari, (that really is how much I love wearing them!) so that I would be comfortable on the wedding day. While not being the height of fashion (or very elegant) they would be concealed by my scary, large, long wedding dress. I received an email back explaining that they do not allow 'unsolicited comments regarding product development' which I felt was a little harsh when I had only asked the question and given them an opportunity to develop into a very lucrative market!
Their website is bright and jazzy with easy to navigate menus and lots of product information. There is a Europe-based site as well if you prefer EUR to USD and less in the way of post and packing costs. WHERE TO BUY THEM....
For their normal websites I would have a look at www.crocs.com or www.crocs.co.uk which will redirect you to the Europe site. My favourite place to buy Crocs (and I will review this site in the future!) is www.kiddikingdom.com who are UK based, order new lines regularly and if they haven't got your size/colour in stock have been known to give you a discount code towards your next pair. Free post and packing on all my orders so far and really friendly people run this little company - would always recommend. SUMMARY
If you want to be comfortable while you work, rest and play, buy a pair of Crocs. They're not all pretty, but describing how they look sort of misses the point. I haven't managed to kill any of mine yet and the fella wears his constantly during the summer. He works on his feet and is of a larger than average build - if he has non-painful feet after 12 hours they're comfortable. Period.

Only real Crocs are comfy. The cheap versions aren't worth bothering with. Nice review. Fionaxx

These sound interesting - although I wouldn't wear them for everyday, they sound good for walking or beach wear.
