Get Fit, Go Elliptical!

Advantages: Low impact cardiovascular workout
Disadvantages: Expensive

...models, I decided upon the York 3100 Elliptical Trainer & Cycle. It looked the sturdiest, could handle the most maximum weight (16 stone - not that I was this large, but obviously the larger the maximum weight, the stronger the machine), was from a brand that I had heard of and trusted, and was mid-priced between the cheaper basic elliptical machines, and the top end Reebok ones. Another important feature is that it is not just an Elliptical Trainer ...
...two good quality machines for the price of two cheap machines, but in the space of one machine - "Genius!" I ordered the machine from Argos (£200 + free delivery) and waited patiently for it to arrive a few days later. This is a home assembly job, and some of the sections are quite heavy so you may need assistance, but it is straight forward to assemble. It isn't small (60cm by 145cm footprint) or light, however, so make sure you assemble it where ...

Orbitrek, worth the money or just a fad..

Advantages: Zero impact, cardio, muscular, cheap, best workout ever!
Disadvantages: Its a hard workout!!

Having been a member of gyms for many years the time came for me to go to university which meant that I couldn't afford a gym membership, so I started to look for a machine that I could buy to use in my own home. As anyone else does I looked at treadmills, bikes and rowers but the quality of them for the money I was looking to spend (£100) was not good enough for my liking. In the past I had seen these funny machines in the gym that you stand up ...
...forth. To me they looked silly and I didn't think I'd ever even get on one, let alone buy one! A friend of mines mum had one of these machines and just out of curiosity I had a go on it......it was like a workout that I had never experienced. It truely was a total body work out, I had to have one of these machines. I purchased my Orbitrek from a shopping channel for £115 and 3 days later there it was in my front room, I'd heard all the hype about ...

Goes Rusty

Advantages: Quiet, good basic range of training sessions
Disadvantages: Goes rusty

...after buying and having the Life fitness people install the equipment, some of the external screws went rusty. The Life fitness repair person said oh yes you need to lacker these as sweat is quite corrosive to the metal. Unfortunately I was not told this when it was installed, they are not done automatically by the manufacturer. He was instructed by his supervisor that he was not to replace them. There get out - apparently a dehumidified out-house ...
...the screws that went were right in line for this. Other equipment from other manufacturers has not suffered in the same way. Given the Life fitness attitude, if you can avoid them do - I bought about 5000 pounds of equipment from them and this is how I was treated. ...

A decent in-front-of-the-telly magnetic exercise bike

Advantages: Low cost magnetic resistance bike, pretty sturdy for the price
Disadvantages: Seating position not necessarily the most comfortably, not great for shorter people!

My previous exercise bike of many years (mostly used as a clothes horse, but more recently brought into service in a determined attempt to get fitter and thinner) recently broke. Specifically, its resistance strap wore through and the ride became more like freewheeling down a hill than anything more energetic. With this in mind I decided to go for a bike with magnetic resistance. I settled on this one as, not only did it fulfil my criteria of a magnetic ...
...was also foldable, and storage space is an issue in my house. As is usual in my reviews, I'll discuss my reasons for my ratings in the 'Specific Criteria,' and include and extra section of general comments. Durability At £79.99 (when I bought it) this was the cheapest magnetic resistance bike I could find, which didn't fill me with high expectations about the quality of the product. I'm pleased to say that I have been pleasantly surprised- ...

Fluid Rower No Slip and No Slack for this indoor water rower

Advantages: well made, great water sound, no slip or slack, great seat hight, very solid
Disadvantages: Interactive monitor not as advanced as concept 2,

...any wrist ache. My first few strokes on the Fluid Rower convinced me I was going to buy it, the instant grab and resistance, the swish and swoosh of the water, it felt perfect. Interactive monitor isnt as good as the concept 2 for features, but would rather have a good rowing machine than upload gimick figures to forums !!! Very easy to put together with some good videos on you tube under fluid rower. Check out fluid-rower.com for more information ...
