The DMM Sentinel is a multi-functional, super light mini HMS that has recently been ... more
updated to include a keylock nose. The beauty of this little locker is that it works really well as a small HMS and yet, because of it's slightly offset shape, also works as a great rigging/multi-purpose screwgate. Sentinel works equally well with any belay device, and fits snugly on most belay loops, reducing the chances of cross loading. It's deep basket and good gate opening make it a fantastic and versatile rigging biner too. The Sentinel utilises Hot Forged I-Beam technology to create a light, but incredibly strong carabiner. The barrel on the gate is machined from premium 7075 alloy to give it massive push-in strength. There is nocurrent standard for this test, but at DMM they don't build carabiners to meet standards; they build their kit as well as they can, eliminate weaknesses and help push the standards forward. It is also anodised for protection against the elements especially coastal and rigorous mountain environments.

Advantages: Cheap, very strong, attractive design, reputable quality brand Disadvantages: failry heavy but then its not a wiregate and it exudes strength
This happens to be the first, the very first karabiner that i ever bought and i've been through so many over the last 13 years that it amazes me how krabs have evolved from cumbersome bricks of metal into small, nimble and light devices.
The tru-screw from DMM can be picked up cheaply and is a first-class karabiner that is perfect for anything other than direct belaying as it is not large enough to support a belay device when belaying, for that you need a HMS karabiner.
It is palm-sized, my one was in blue anodized to prevent rusting and it feels very very solid it one's hand. Fairly heavy, especially compared to a wiregate, but then this is needed for that added security and reassurance when climbing.
Easy to operate with one hand, its particularly suited to traditional climbing at crags. My has seen me through the years and taken ...

Advantages: one phone number to cancel everything Disadvantages: have to remember to add new cards
Sentinel Card Protection does exactly what is says on the tin. It protects your cards. It also protects your wallet, passport, driving licence and more. Just one phone call is all it takes for peace of mind once your cards have been lost/stolen.
I took this out before we went to Cyprus as the thought of being abroad and losing our cards and passports etc, was not worth thinking about.
Sentinel provide sheets of paper, which you record all card details onto. You can log:
Credit card
Debit card
Loyalty card
Store card
Fuel card
Passport
Driving Licence
Sentinel then send you back a printed sheet for you to check that the details are correct.
They also send you a metal tag to use on your keyring. This means that if you drop your keys and somebody finds them, they can be put in a postbox to Sentinel, who will then ...
Advantages: overwritten by disadvantages Disadvantages: You can not get out
Unable to cancel the policy. Beware what you sign.
I have been with Sentinel for years and when I decided I no longer wanted their services I wrote a letter to cancel them and they claim not to have received it. I have also contacted them by phone. But they do not offer Reference numbers for the phone calls so you have no way of proving you have called them to cancel the services. Terrible.
itīs a catch 22 situation.
They have just told me that because I have been charged again 2 weeks ago, I am outside the cancellation period of 14 days when their policy states that you have 90 days to cancel your cover.
It is a nightmare
I am going through an ordeal and the co-op who recommended their services (and advertises them in their website! ) refuses to help- I have asked them not to not accept their charges and they said they can not ...
