The daiwa supercast is an excellent rod, i have been using the STS13PM for all my beach fishing. It is capable of casting 6oz and mackeral flapper with ease. The STS13PM is rated at 4-8oz and is ideal for areas with a strong tide.
The bite detection is also very good, on the STS13PM it has a stiffer tip which allows more sensitive bite detection in flood tides. However...

Advantages: Great value, Slim design, high quality fittings Disadvantages: None
...Holding this rod in your hand you could really think you were holding a rod worth well over £200, and when you find it is less than £100 you realise what a great value bit of kit this really is.
A super slim blank makes the rod look great and understated markings really make it feel like a custom built rod.
I use the 3lb tc model and it really is a superb all rounder, the rod really can cast, hitting 100 yards with ease and going well over that mark when needed. Also it can play a fish, it is not too stiff so you suffer hook pulls.
It is finished to a very high quality, with full fuji rings, with a well proportioned 40mm butt ring, couple this with a FUJI DNPS reel seat, you can tell it is a quality piece of kit, worth well over its price tag.
Add to this a really neat butt cap with a slim butt section. A handy 12" marker...

Advantages: Good casting distance, high speed retrieval, comfortable handle, good power Disadvantages: Outer finishing seems not lasting too long.
.... Need the retrieval speed and power altogether.
The specification of this reel certainly meet my demand. With daiwa tag on it and 11 corrosian resistance bearing, it was properly suited my taste.
I coupled this reel with 10' DAM uptide rod (4 - 10 oz casting weight) and with Power Pro braided line (red). I might had went too far on the line selection, I would recomment mono line as my finger a bit sore everytime after quite a few cast. With tide that twisted the leader, I spent quite some time on getting it entangled. But, with the braided line and paired with reel, I could get 100 yards distance, and I am only 5'6 & 140 lb. That is why I decided to go for 10' rod. I got about the same casting distance when I am using using 13' rod but with Digigeared powered Daiwa reel. With 3' handicapped, this reel really make a difference in casting...

It's a little hard to take Rod Stewart seriously when, on the first track of this third installment in his Great American Songbook series, he sings ruefully about his love life being "lean" ("Embraceable You"). But otherwise, Stardust...Volume III is as... more
