of performance, the 1.1 is a little slow. If you know how to get the best out of an engine this isnt a problem and you will soon find yourself moving briskly, keeping things on the boil with a few more frequent gear changes than usual. My advice here, get one with a rev counter or if you are impatent dont be tight and get one with a bigger engine! I would reccommend the 1.4 Furio or 1.6 VTR (8v) if you want anything that has all-round performance.
Fuel
Even driven hard on motorways or back lanes it will always give around 45mpg. On a long careful drives we achieve 50mpg easilly.
handling is its best quality - lots of FUN. Dont forget the VTR/VTS performance models are considered amongst the best handling cars around. It is beautifully balanced. My only critisism of the car here is that the ride can get 'bouncy' at times on rough roads ...

Myself and my son recently visited our local Citroen dealer because we organised a test drive on a 1.1i Saxo First. This was because my son is currently looking for a new car to replace his very reliable but ageing current motor, a Citroen AX.
The Saxo has always attracted my son with its good looks and decent performance, but interestingly enough he was interested in the smallest engine option of the First. There are several reasons for this, all unbelievably and unusually sensible coming form my son!! Firstly the 1124cc engine keeps insurance costs down and also it is very light on the drink when it comes to the petrol pump. Despite this you musn't get me wrong because it is certainly no slouch, the lightweight of the body ensures that. I don't know too much about cars so it will probably come to no surprise to those is similar positions to me that I took my husband along with me so i didn't get ripped off!
After many searches and looking at many varieties of small car I chose a Saxo East Coast,1.1i 3 dr.
The first thing to say about my nippy little car is that I love it. I chose a special edition, which really only meant I had a CD player rather than cassette radio, sporty seats with lovely upholstery and a different coloured seat belt on each seat, yellow gear knob, metallic paint and blue colour on the speed dial etc. Basically the differences were visual rather than any thing different to the mechanics of the car. However, it gave the car a special feel to me.
