...The salt spray stung my face. The hulls vibrated and groaned. This was speed. Six inches above the water, six feet out from the side of the boat, I had the most fantastic view as the hulls of my Hobie 16 sliced through the clear blue sea leaving perfectly cut water closing in behind them. This is catamaran sailing. Exhilarating, fast and furious. Another small wave, adjust the tiller round up slightly, lean back and up we go, yes clear airtime again and crash we come back down, the lee hull submerges but pulls out in a flash and we carry on as before. As we come into the surf close to shore we ride down the wave front, pull hard on the tiller and flare off the top. Pure adrenaline.
I have just come back from my hols. Two weeks in the sun and sailing a free Hobie 16 was daily entertainment.
These catamarans are built for the surf...

Advantages: Catch you bigger fish Disadvantages: Fragile and take a lot of looking after if you're going to store them correctly, keeping them fresh
...species. I’m mainly thinking of the silvery roach. The difference between fishing a maggot and a caster can sometimes be quite suprising. Put on a maggot, and you’ll get a piddley little thing. Put on the caster and yippee, you’ve got yourself a bigger one. I’m not saying that it will always work, but if you get everything right, then you can enjoy an excellent days fishing.

During the summer months the fish always seem to go totally crazy, and using the casters really seems to make little difference to the size of the fish I catch. During these months, the water is obviously a little cooler though, so the fish aren’t darting around all over the place, snapping up every free morsel they see.
There are obviously...

Advantages: Warm, waterproof, easy to use. Disadvantages: None to me.
...material which is 100% waterproof and breathable. The filling is 300g polyfil, 180g in the neck, making the rug heavyweight and lovely and warm, suitable for the horse during the coldest winter. The lining is apparently denier embossed nylon which helps prevent rubbing.
The rug has a special feature, there is a pocket of room at the chest, created by a dart, to help eliminate rubbing.
There are new elastic inserts on the surcingles to allow greater freedom of movement. The leg straps have a swivel clip for ease of use and they are also removable. Some people don`t like using legstraps (though I always do), so this is useful. There is a reflective Weather beeta badge (useful if bringing in in the dark). There is an ID label, handy if lots of horses in the yard have the same rug. The surcingle fastenings are stainless steel...
