A few years ago my dad managed to win a free one day pass for a David Lloyd centre of his choice. He took me of course, and the centre in Birmingham was about the nearest to us, which is why we chose it. And I have to say, it was one of the most refreshing days of my life.

We arrived without problem at about 4pm. We entered into the reception area, and to be honest we were surprised by the place. It was instantly obvious that David Lloyd centres aren't just for those who are interested in tennis, which was the real reason I was there in fact.

First of all we booked a tennis court, and as it happened there were many free at the time so we walked straight on court. There were about 6 indoor carpet courts, which were top quality and very nice to play on indeed, if not a bit fast. We played for about an hour, and it wasn't strenuous stuff at all, due to the air conditioning, and our easy relaxed approach to the game. We were here to have fun after all. If we had of wanted we could have played outside, and the weather was pretty fine, but indoors does have its attractions.

After are gentle hit we decided to take a look around. First of all we came across a huge gym area. It wasn't enclosed behind doors or anything, you could find equipment around everywhere(within a certain area)in a place to suit you. So we decided to take a go on two treadmills for about half an hour, just mainly to try them out. Above the equipment was a giant TV which had sports channels playing, so it was a very enjoyable experience. Afterwards we did have a look at the other equipment, but we didn't bother trying any of it. But these David Lloyd centres do have the whole complete range of gym equipment that can exercise all parts of the body.

After our short work out, we continued our tour with the indoor swimingpool. There was one outside aswell, but again, the indoor option seamed easier. Aswell as the pool, there was also a steam room, Jacuzzi and sauna, for a full range of relaxation attractions. We spent a lot of time relaxing with these features.

After our swim we went for the club restaurant. This wasn't included in our free pass sadly, but to make up for it there was a big screen showing a live football match, which to be honest topped off a really enjoyable day.

Overall all David Lloyd centres are basically tennis specific gym clubs, but I have to say they are very modern and up to date with their equipment. On the way out I did see a banner displaying the membership fees, but I'm afraid I didn't write them down for you, as I was too disheartened at the time. I'll probably never become a member unless I somehow become amazingly rich, but I will be looking out for free day trails again. If you have the money to afford a place like this to have a membership I would defiantly recommend it to you. It has a lovely friendly atmosphere and wonderful facilities. But sadly the price of quality is expensive and I'll have to stick with my local tennis club for now.

Good opinion, I noticed you selected the value for money Ciao rating as 'satisfactory' , any idea how much membership costs at this Club? (I know you won a free years membership, but the prics may help consumers make better informed decisions, annd then we can compare the facilities you have listed against the price, I guess there must be different memberships, Off Peak, Paek etc.. a good insight regarding the facilities to be found at David LLOYD.

Good review - I didn't realise that these places were tennis specific (not being very sporty) and have often wondered what they were like. Thanx, Julie
