Advantages: Good Price. Accuracy. Disadvantages: Take some getting used to the distance
...look classy. They have got deep cavity heads with a nice red urethane insert in the head.
I hadn’t set out to get these irons but there was a promotion day down at my local driving range and they had reps from Titelist, Callaway, Ping and Wilson there.
It was one of those days where all the range balls were free; you just had to try out the different clubs. Bargain.
I must have spent about 2 hours at the range ... ...on tour who promotes Wilson deep red is Padraig Harrington. He uses his own customised set of Wilson clubs.
After a wait of about 2 - 3 weeks for my clubs to come "custom fit" from the Wilson factory, I finally got chance to try out the whole set.

I got these irons to replace my old (beginner) set of Wilson irons. As after 2 years my game was not getting any better, I had to try some new clubs - or give up altogether!!!
The first thing that you will notice about these clubs is that they look classy. They have got deep cavity heads with a nice red urethane insert in the head.

I must have spent about 2 hours at the range that day, I tried all the different clubs and told myself that I wouldn’t go for the cheapest or dearest clubs but would just go for the ones that felt right.
As it turned out when I picked up the " Reds" I knew instinctively that they were the right clubs for me. The swing felt so smooth and well weighted, I immediately had a good feel for the shot. Something that Wilson calls “Fluid Feel”.
Wilson claims that the fat shaft stops the head of the club from twisting at impact. Also the urethane insert promotes higher ball flight and the large head will give you greater forgiveness on off centre shots.
Wilson measured my up and tested out my swing speed there and then. They also checked my lie, swing and grip size. This whole process takes a little while and I was pleasantly surprised at the care and attention that I received. It’s a credit to Wilson and their sales team that they can spend so much time setting up each set. A fact that makes me want to stay with Wilson when I decide that I need another set.
I had always considered Wilson to be for the medium to high handicap player, but the rep was telling me that he was selling sets to low handicappers and even scratch golfers. Their most famous player on tour who promotes Wilson deep red is Padraig Harrington. He uses his own customised set of Wilson clubs.
After a wait of about 2 - 3 weeks for my clubs to come "custom fit" from the Wilson factory, I finally got chance to try out the whole set. The first thing that I noticed between these and my old set was the distances were completely different. This alone took a good couple of months getting used to. So don't expect immediate results. But do expect immediate results on accuracy. I found that most of my shots were going straight where I pointed.
I've had my "Reds" for about 18 months now and have seen my handicap drop from 26 down to 19. Also out of my small syndicate that I play in, 4 out of 12 have got the same clubs.
I paid £349 for my set 18 months ago, but after a quick search on the Internet I see that the price is half that now. This is probably because the “Deep Red II” irons have recently been released.
I've also since got the Deep Red 10.5 deg driver and can easily smack one down the middle of the fairway from the tee about 300 yds - depending on the conditions.
In summary then if your looking for a new set of irons, which offer length and accuracy and don’t want to spend a fortune, then you cant go wrong by buying these quality clubs.
