I went to a Delta Force paintball site in Maidenhead, near Reading, for my mates 18th a couple of weeks ago. His dad had booked us in online but after finding out that those VIP tickets are cheaper (and you get more free paintballs!) he cancelled the booking through the booking office and bought a couple of books of tickets.
We turned up at around 9am and had to fill out a registration form. We were then issued our equipment. This consisted of a boiler suit (they were all very clean and came in a wide variety of sizes), a helmet, a "battlepack" (for holding extra paintballs) and a hopper for the guns. After getting ready and being assigned to a team we were given a safety briefing (the marshals were very passionate about safety throughout the day and were always more than happy to help).
Then we marched off into the game zones and were given our guns. I went paintballing when I was about 13 or so (I'm not sure if it was with Delta Force or not) and I cannot express how much things have changed since then. Back then, the game zones mainly consisted of a few barrels and barricades in a muddy woodland and you were given some highly unimaginative objective to complete. Still fun but nowhere near what it is today.
We played 5 game zones that day (ten actual games in total). That included: - The Black Pearl (A bomb the base game, where the base is a 70ft pirate ship!) - Siege of Stalingrad (A raise the flag game but on several different objectives. Raise your teams flag on 4 ex-soviet missile trucks and score points for each one. This was my favourite) - Zombies Crypt (Capture the holy book from the altar inside the 2 story church and bring it to the enemies base) - Return to Castle Wolfenstein (Raise the flag inside the MASSIVE 2 story castle!) - Speedball (High adrenaline, fast paced games in a field full of hundreds of barrels)
About half way through the day we were given a pizza lunch (which we paid for earlier that day) which was pretty good. One pizza each provided more than enough sustainance for the day. After an hours lunch break we were marched back into the fray of battle.
We had the most amazing day! Sure we all had a couple of bruises to show for it (I wouldn't recommend getting shot in the knuckles, splash out for the gloves!). The only down side of the day was that it was pretty expensive. In my opinion it was worth the money we were paying but not everyone was as enthused as I was. We could all agree the main down side was that the day didn't go on longer!
The marshals even put on a game at the end of the day when everyone was going home for those people that still had paintballs left. Unfortunately we were too trigger happy that day and went home instead but we all had a great day. Two weeks later and we're still talking about it! I would definately recommend paintballing to anyone, especially at Delta Force.
