Denon AVR3300 - A spanking good cinema amp
Review of Denon AVR-3300 by
kremen
Advantages: Good all round HiFi and cinema amp
Disadvantages: fiddly to set up
...I have been using a Denon AVR3300 Receiver now for 4 months as the heart of my home cinema system and have found it a great performer. The sound is very comparable to my old Technics HiFi amp, even with pure CD Audio.
The Amp has plenty of power, good frequency range and seems to suit my TDL floorstanding speakers. I use a B&W centre speaker and Paradigm sub. AR-8 rears make up the full complement.
Only niggles are:
- Complex programming
- No digital out
- Could do with 2 more video in sockets
- Poor remote control (ugly)
For £600 (if you shop around) I think it is a good value amp for the quality and performance....

Quality DTS - Dolby Digital Receiver
Review of Denon AVR-2800 by
BruceH
Advantages: On screen setup, great sound
Disadvantages: Cluttered remote
...Looking for a quality AV receiver, you've found it!!!
Features
--------
Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS support
S-video switching
Loads of audio inputs
Optical and Coax digital inputs
On screen setup
Quality
-------
From the moment you plug in this receiver you'll be amazed. You plug it into your TV and you can lay out your speaker set up on screen, balance the levels, direct the bass to the Sub etc.
The sound will blow you away.
As EX and ES are still very pricey Dolby Digital and DTS are good enough for most homes and this amp is the business.
Available in black and champagne finish.
Disadvantages
-------------
The remote is a little cluttered and difficult to use in the dark. Some buttons do glow and it is a learning remote but I think it could be improved.
NB: This amp has been discontinued and replace by the almost identical AVR...

Denon AVR 1706
Review of Denon AVR-1706 by
Delboy001
Advantages: Good quality, Good number of inputs
Disadvantages: Complicated Menu's, Instructions
...to kick in.
Set up is very straight forward, plug in the wall, red to red, black to black. Everything port/socket is clearly labeled and laid out, so no worry for connecting incorrectly.
My only issues with the AMP, is that you will need a good week to find your way around the complicated remote control, and as the instructions look good at first glance, however they are in fact worse than the stereotypical stereo instructions. When I was looking for specific tasks, they were no where to be found in the index, so I had to manually "play around" till I could do the task I wanted.
Once more time has been spent learning the functions, this AV receiver is a good boys toy, the sound it delivers is top notch for use in the hone (also speaker dependent), and is easily connected to the TV for picture broadcast. It is quite heavy, but well built...
