I can't believe we are nearly at the end of another year and another decade! Overall, 2009 has been a great year for me and I'd like to take this opportunity to reflect on it and share some of my experiences with you. January, February, March In January I had my first block of 2nd year exams (on my speech and language therapy course) and I started my 2nd placement. I was placed in the university adult clinic ? the Aphasia centre, for adults with language and communication difficulties, usually following a stroke. I had two adult clients, both of whom had had a stroke, and we worked on their methods of communication. It took me a while to settle into the placement but overall I quite enjoyed it. Review of Review of the Year 2009

Escapism . .

Advantages: Escapism, cheap, not to be taken too seriously.
Disadvantages: Slightly dated, not that believable.

In this review, the plot will not be given away, you may read every word without fear of it being spoilt. (I may regret this) Escape to Athena, a very good war film, actually released on the 6th of June (D day) but in 1974. The cast consists of :- Anthony Valentine Claudia Cardinale David Niven Elliott Gould Roger Moore Stefanie Powers Telly Savalas There are of course many other actors in this film, plus the obligatory extras without whom productions like this would not be possible. The film carries a PG rating, which was probably right for the sevebties, but of course times move on, and I tend to think there is nothing in this movie, that would concern a parent. Review of Escape To Athena (DVD)

Scone Shoes

Advantages: comfortable, better fitting shoes at reasonable prices
Disadvantages: limited range, most of them are quite ugly

First let me explain ?scone shoes.? When I first ordered shoes from the Shoe Tailor, experts in wider-fitting shoes, I measured my feet incorrectly and found that the only shoes in their catalogue that would fit me were their widest, ugliest, most orthopaedic, brown, granny shoes: the type you might wear to go out with your friends for a scone, in your later years. Hence my friends groaningly called them my ?scone shoes? and walked several yards behind me on the way to the pub every night. They were very comfy! However, they fell apart after a couple of years of continuous wear, and once gone, same said friends took me shopping to some ?proper? shoe shops in Glasgow and I never once consulted my Shoe Tailor catalogue again.
