The traditional oilskin Driza-Bone Short Coat is ideal for getting in and out of cars, for any activities where a longer length coat is not essential. It has all the features of the Riding Coat but in a shorter length without the rear fantail or leg straps.
...I bought a genuine australian driza-bone long riding coat back with me from australia having heard good reviews about them. I was less than impressed to say the least. Perhaps this particular coat was designed for the sunnier climes of australia and not the winter conditions of Britain!! The quality of the item seemed very good but it cerainly did not stand up to the weather of which it was claimed to stand up to. The coat leaked at every seam on it, and even in a light drizzle it did not remain completely waterproof. It certainly was not "weatherproof". I was extremely disappointed with this product and certainly would not buy one again from any country! I'm sure a cheaper coat could be found that IS weatherproof. Not recommended!...

Advantages: you will be DRY AS A BONE! Disadvantages: Stopping everyone else from borrowing it!
...I first had a Driza-Bone jacket bought for me as a teenager by my parents, they were considered widly expensive for a kids coat then but it was found on a market somewhere! Putting it on I felt like a queen recieving her royal cloak, and once on I refused to stay indoors! Needless to say as soon as it was outgrown another one was demanded and so on until I eventually stopped growing! needless to say however I still have several different styles hanging up now, one for walking the dogs.....one for mucking out.....one for going racing.....one for riding etc etc. My Driza-Bone is no longer just a jacket that keeps you cool in spring, warm in winter, dry at any time of the year and is lightweight enough to wear all day, it is now the essiential must have for visiting local cross country courses in, or the local point to point meetings...

...Whilst on the subject of washing horses, stain remover is a useful thing to have in the tack room. The review is for stain remover and coat shine, both of which I have used though the former more than the latter. Having a grey, I would not be without stain remover.
What is Stain Remover?

Stain remover is something that you spray onto a stain on the horses coat, leave for a few minutes and then sponge off. When horses roll, they roll in the grass, even if it is not muddy and end up with green stains on them which are only visible when they are grey. These stains are not easy to remove, even when bathing them and using shampoo. The other type of stain that also shows up more on a grey are from droppings. For some reason, when they are in their stable, they chose to lie in their droppings even...

I think it’s fair to say I’ve mentioned the fair Miss Lewis on the odd occasion throughout my time here on Ciao, but I doubt many people will have been lucky enough to have actually got the chance to listen to her music. She’s defiantly under-the-radar,... more
