Full review
When I bought my new bike at the beginning of the summer I had plans to cycle five miles everyday. But as you can probably guess this was short lived and I soon gave up the ghost. Anyhow that is why I purchased a cycle computer. I bought this particular one not because I wanted it, but because the one I wanted was not in stock and this was the next best one.

The Raleigh Echo W1 is a 9 function cycle computer that can tell you your current speed, riding time, total riding time, Average speed, trip distance and Maximum speed. As well as these functions there is a clock and an odometer and a speed pacer. And all these functions are available at the touch of a single button.

It comes with a handlebar bracket and a wireless transmitter and a LR44 battery is included.

Fitting it is easy, firstly put the bracket together and then fit that on the handlebar on your bike. Then you should concentrate on setting up the wireless transmitter, this is fitted on the front forks by a rip tie. Once in place you must then put the metal clip provided on to your spokes ensuring there is a gap of around 5mm.

To set up your wheel circumference you must measure a complete turn of the wheel. The best way to do this is starting at the tyre valve and marking it with a piece of chalk the roll the tyre forward until it comes to the valve again, mark it then measure the distance in mm between the two chalk lines to get your circumference. There is a handy table provided in the instruction manual so you might not have to do this, so long as your wheel size is listed. Unfortunately mine wasn't.

When setting up the actual computer it will give you a chance to choose your preferred measurements either kilometres or miles. Then it goes onto odometer settings and total time setting, these settings are best left set at 00000.0. Next are the circumference settings, by this point you should have worked out what it is so simply input it. Finally you will need to set up the clock and when this is done you will be ready to ride.

The computer simply slides into the head of the bracket and is in place when it snaps into place. To remove it push down the release button hold both side and pull.

It cost me £14.99 from Argos, which is £5 cheaper than the one I originally wanted so that's a bargain.

My thoughts

Although this is not the cycle computer that I originally wanted I am very happy with it, it does everything that I wanted it to except tell me how many calories I have burnt up. However as with most things it has its design flaws, especially in my case because of the unusual frame of my bike, the handlebar bracket did not fit because it is smaller than the standard size. To overcome this problem I had to cut up my speaking Star Wars watch strap. Gutted!!! Then I had a problem fitting on then wireless transmitter because my forks are oversized, but with the help of a pair of pliers I managed to pull the rip cord until it locked.

Another thing that annoys me about the computer is the clock. It doesn't automatically adjust itself when the clocks go back or forward and the only way of changing it is by resetting the whole thing.

On the plus side I have managed to break the speed limit in town a few times, which has to said is fun especially as I'm on a pushbike.

Hope you find this helpful
