it's also (dare I say it)..... practical. Easy to drive, easy to park and yet still perfectly capable of surprising the M3 owner who thinks a girl in an old "H" reg plastic car can't make him look a bit stupid at the next set of lights!
Okay that last comment wasn't serious (I wasn't even trying), but suffice to say that the fact an Elan won't break the bank when compared to any other like-for-like roadster is the last reason in the world to buy one..... buy one because they're a little oddity in a world of MX5's, MR2's and MGF's, because people will still ask "what is that"? and because once you drive it, you'll realise the importance of how a car handles and what it feels like to actually be ...

Advantages: Cool, classic looking car, very rare and different in the UK, speed, once the engine was sorted out and long distance cruising potential Disadvantages: Heavy fuel consumption, only drum brakes all round with no servo, automatic gearbox
. The braking was best described as a joke.
Not only did the brakes fade, they were also not adjusted correctly so first it would pull to the left and then the right and then the left front wheel would lock up. It was an interesting journey home.
The second major problem was the engine. 1972 was the first year the US Authorities placed heavy legislation on emmission controls and as a result, the engines just didnt perform. The technology just didnt exists then so it was easier to stop the engine performing than to look at other ways of reducing the emmissions so I had a 5.0 liter engine that put out somewhere around 140 bhp at the wheels, this was similar to what many 3.0 litre engines were putting out at the time, and so with a low powered engine, an auto gearbox and a near two tonne weight, it didnt really go anywhere fast, still that was ...

Advantages: two ovens and seperate grill, 6 rings Disadvantages: top is difficult to keep clean
I have my Elan Dual fuel range 3 months now and find it brilliant to cook with. I wanted a range that looked good and was usefull and the elan certainly delivers on both. The wok cradle is particulary usefull. The ovens are spacious and the smaller one has a roasting tray (which is detachable) which is attached to the door so no need to lift out heavy roasting tins to baste your meat. I do find cleaning the top around the rings a bit of a chore but it's worth it. The Elan is very straight forward to use. The pan drawer is useful for storing baking trays. There is a simpal to use timer and a child lock to stop the range working if young children turn the dials ...
