Well here’s a subject that I know quite a lot about , having a son who has been skateboarding since the age of 8 and is now 29 and still skating and to be honest I used to hate it as he was always getting injured, but over the years you get used to the inevitable injuries they are going to have and start to see the talent that develops and the tricks they can do.

My son has developed lots of style and tricks and has been involved with getting skateboard parks built for kids in rural areas who have no-where to skate by campaigning, raising money and judging competitions to raise money for the skate parks.
The local councils are getting better at understanding what these kids need, as they just want to skateboard and will go and skate in the streets which annoys people if they have no-where else to go.

As with all sports the equipment is usually expensive and in skateboarding this is no different, a skateboard can last anything from a month down to one skating session, depending on where the skateboarder is skating and what tricks they are doing, as you can imagine this is a very expensive hobby.
My son has often dragged me round skateboard shops every birthday and Christmases, looking at trucks, wheels, boards, grip tape and numerous other shops for the right trainers, clothes, ect for skateboarding and I now consider myself educated on the subject of what’s good and what’s not.

This skateboarding deck, is light weight and thinner than a lot of other skateboards. Although you would think it’s not as durable as the other chunkier versions, it’s quite durable.
It has been made with the view of doing tricks in mind as a lighter board in transit, helps to perform the tricks and jumps that the skateboarder loves to perform.

The £54 board of course comes without trucks and wheels, so you can chose your own preference in these additions.
Even though this may seem a lot of money. It is about the average price for a good board. The cheaper boards at £29 are usually for beginners and once the skateboarder has the hang of it, they tend to save up for a good thinner, lightweight board, so that they can do the tricks and have fun.

You can buy one of these skateboards at your local skateboard shop and they will order things for you if it’s not in stock. Amazon do stock them, but you might pay a little bit more as this included postage and packaging.
The boards are well worth their money and my son has had two of these now and to my surprise, they have both lasted more than three weeks.
He usually snaps the boards by doing Ollies or other jumps and he has been video’d by the hereford skaters association when they bring out their annual DVD to show to the public and bring awareness to the sport. He has been known to jump down from hights other skaters would not dare go for and hence the other skaters have nick named him SAS Dave.

The Ollie is an aerial skateboarding trick, invented by Alan "Ollie" Gelfand in 1978. When doing an ollie the skateboarder leaps into the air bringing the board into the air without using their hands. The board appears to magically lift with the feet remaining in contact with the board throughout the jump. The ollie is performed by the skater bending down and pushing the end of the board down then popping back up to give the illusion of the board defying gravity. The ollie is the first and most basic trick in skateboarding and must be learned first, and then other tricks will be based on it.

Well, if you have a child that’s into skateboarding , then they will appreciate one of these skateboards for their birthday or Christmas present, as a good board adds confidence to the skater and confidence building and no fear is what it’s all about.
