Horse holiday from Heaven
Advantages: So different from the usual riding holiday Disadvantages: Need a car to get there - or a horse - or a mule!
Little did I realise what a chance search for 'Riding' and 'Spain' would bring up on eBay. I wasn't disappointed! A love of horses, a wish to get away, get some sun, see Spain and its culture and be with great likeminded company would seem a tall order but Villa Roxmar fulfilled all my wishes and more. Within a day I would be away from it all, riding in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood, and living and breathing Spanish horses!
Whether taking a relaxing ... ...just spending time around the yard, Villa Roxmar has it all! Within walking distance of the wonderfully Spanish and quaint Tabernas,- great for extremely cheap and delicious 'tapas' lunches - and in the desert to provide great riding, Villa Roxmar is ideally positioned. A warm welcome for Rob and Carol await along with beautifully clean and high quality accommodation. A range of horses and the totally loveable mule 'Mula' (you will want to take him ...

Trent Valley Equestrian - the best in the area
Advantages: Covers everything for ages 4-94, lead rein to three day event Disadvantages: I just wish it was closer to home (but it's still worth the travel!)
Trent Valley Equestrian Centre is a fantastic riding school and livery/competition yard - very friendly, very professional, very welcoming. Our daughter would live there if she could even though she doesn't have her own pony! From lead rein to three day event, from age 4 to 94 this is the place to learn to ride, to improve your riding and compete at every level. TVEC view riding as a complete activity including horse care and stable management - ... ...Pony Club, ABRS, BHS, NVQ - you name it, they do it. Every month it seems there is a new development - something small like a new stable door or something big like the new 1800 sq m International Level Indoor Arena to complement the four floodlit ourdoor arenas. If you don't believe me, try it for yourself at one of their regular open shows. ...

Good But Prices Riding High!
Advantages: well maintained, good facilities, hacking in Trent Park, easy to get to Disadvantages: busy, disorganised, expensive
***Facilities***
Trent Park Equestrian Centre (TPEC) is close to Oakwood Station (Piccadilly Line) and also has plenty of parking. They have a large selection of horses (over 100) so can cater for various abilities and the horses themselves seem fairly happy. The yard is always being cleaned and the three schooling areas (two of which are under cover) are well maintained. There's a small cafe and other clients seem friendly. Generally, the instructors ... ...and attentive. ***Riding Wear***
You can rent boots, crops and hats from TPEC for your lesson. They also sell a limited range of riding wear. The kit can be expensive, so I would advise you to perservere with renting if you are new to riding, untill you are sure you want to continue.
***Time keeping***
The centre has excellent facilities, but I had previously been left waiting up to 20 minutes of my 1 hour lesson (pre-booked and paid for) to use ...

Should be Easier to Get Your Leg Over.
Advantages: Saves lengthening stirrup. Disadvantages: No pocket, muddy.
I have kept horses for years. The mounting block at the yard is huge, which is great. However, continually using the mounting block has reduced my ability to mount from the ground, which is alright when I have the use of the mounting block. What happens if I have to get off when I am out though?
Mounting.

When getting on a horse, it is better for the horses back and the saddle if you can use a mounting block to get on. When I am ... ...the mounting block. I am alright when on my 15.2hh mare, I can get on no problem. My 16.2hh is a bit more difficult, I am 5 foot 4. I can manage but I have to put the stuirrup down 6 and then up again when I am on, or I find a stone to stand on or a higher bit of bank. Show grounds are generally flat, so I take steps there to get on.When I get off to walk the course though, I am not going to walk all the way back to the trailer to get on again. I ...

Learn to hunt Basil Brush kids
Advantages: Great tuition and safe Disadvantages: Parking could get a problem
Brampton Stables is a super business and a great place to learn to ride. Much of my review will be written based upon the stables as a riding school however they also offer a full livery service for those wishing to keep their horses there and while I have to endure an annual nag fest from my daughter regarding her wish to own a horse I have so far resisted based on the fact that it is rather expensive and very time consuming even if you opt for ... ...that they went to.
Brampton Stables is located in the lovely Northamptonshire village of Church Brampton which is about five miles from Northampton just off Stables Lane. There is a drive which shares access to a number of properties, currently the old stable yard is being converted to residential houses however a new set of state of the art stables have been built which provide a far superior living space for the horses.
The centre is blessed ...
