I visited Esporta Bolton as a member's guest. I was thinking of joining myself at the time and wanted to take a look at the facilities and weigh up the prices first. The facilities were fantastic, although I felt that the pool could have been a bit bigger. The club is immaculate inside and all the staff extremely helpful and friendly, they couldn't seem to do enough for you. The Esporta complex is quite large and also boasts a beautiful restaurant and bar area. It is great if you have kids too as there is a fantastic kids area with lovely carers who play imaginitive and fun games with them whilst you work out! Inside the actual gym, there are TV's with Sky Television which extracts those awkward moments when you are on a machine and don't quite know where to look! There really is something for everyone here, although those 'someones' really do have to have a substantial bank balance in order to fund such a hobby. I was thinking of becoming a member, a student member actually. However, I was told that I could only join under the student membership if my parents were members there too, which they unfortunatley aren't. When I was told how much it would cost for an annual membership, I almost fell over backwards! It IS a substantial amount although I am sure that those who ARE members feel it is worth it, as it is such a wondrerful place. I was told that I could pay the fee in installments over the year, but chose not to. My student loan really couldn't take the hammering! For my boyfriend and I to join together it would have cost seventy pounds each to actually JOIN and then a further four-hundred pounds each for the rest! If you have the money, it is without a doubt worth it, although if you are a student and don't have parents who are members...don't bother!!! Buy an exercise bike instead!! Although, in all fairness, I DO feel that if I had the money, I would think it was worth every penny!

Hi and thanks for the review - even though I have only just got round to reading it ! You have to be like me - wait til the kids are grown up, disposal income is a bit higher, and live in a reasonably cheap part of the country - then tell yourself that if yopu go every day, it will pay for itself !! I'm in the Belfast club and love it ! - Trevor

I know what you mean about the high costs, but it is worth it in the end. I am lucky because my boyfriend is a member so I can pay 20 pounds a month for student membership.

Wierd about only having student membership if your parents are members - almost as though they treat students like they're still children!
