I am not a gym goer, or at least i wasn't before. Now I have one of the highest attendances in my gym.

Where is it:

Esporta Kingston is situated in a 3 minute walk from Kinston train station, the bus stop is near by and next to Sainsbury’s. There is a massive car park in front of it. It is pay and display sadly.

How did I join:

I went to get some milk in Sainsbury’s and thought why not check this place out. so I went in and asked how much was the membership. Before I actually got the answer I was shown the whole gym and told all about it.
Next day I joined. My membership is the student one and costs £49 a months. It is a one year contract, direct debit payment. Membership can be frozen if any valid reasons given like broken leg, long holiday or no money to pay. My joining fee was around £80. Plus I got the rest of December free. Now the prices are like that: joining fee £69. Monthly adult membership also £69. Students £49, under 17's £29
Generally they do some freebies when you join like free private trainer sessions.

Induction

There is an induction with a trainer that you can choose. Different ones specialise on different aspects of fitness. He/She takes your medical details, checks blood pressure, talks about your concerns answers your questions. Then you tell them what you want and they show you what to do. As simple as that. Everything is written down on your card and you can carry it around until you memorize everything. Every month you come back to your trainer and go through a check to see if you are making progress and if you can do more things now, like lifting heavier weights. You can approach your trainer anytime to ask a question or hire him/her or any other trainer as a personal trainer - they will go around with you.

The gym

Even in peak hours you almost never have to wait for equipment to be free. I don't know if they actually have all the fitness equipment invented. The middle of the gym is cardio theatre. Running machines, x-trainers, stepping thingies, bikes and the best bit 8 big screens with TV!!! plug your headphones in and run until Eastenders end. (No movies though or Sky)
Then you have stretching area with gym balls and weights.
Heavy lifting area with lots of guys there. And some variety of weights.
Between cardio theatre and heavy lifting you get lat pull down, sited row, anything you want really.
There is a spin studio with some just arrived in equipment. Its fun to watch them go.
Entrance to studio one and yoga studio are in the gym as well.
There us a view of Kingston particularly of some nasty gas tower or something. But who cares you are there to exercise not to enjoy the landscape.

Changing rooms

Lockers - £1 coin, just put in lock it, come back and get your coin back. Sadly big minus here lockers are not permanent.
Benches, kids changing area, adult changing area, lots of mirrors and quality babylos hairdryers, changing cubicle, scales, 3 toilets, TV (stuck on ITV channel), swimming costume drying machine and showers. Overall impression quite nice. Could be improved no doubt but very satisfactory and clean.

Towelling service

Grab as many crispy clean white towels as you may wish. After carrying my wet towel home two times I’ve been using this service. And why not? ITS FREE

Swimming pool

Kids pool - nice tiny warm. Usually has kids in it
Big pool - amazing. Especially when you are the only person there. 1.2m deep. Just the right temperature. Fast lane, medium lane, space for people who just swim. Very clean - as a result after it you smell of chlorine
There are two jacuzzis. Very good and relaxing. Amazing way to meet people - I was hit on 3 times. If you don't want to meet people close your eyes and pretend you are relaxing - comes naturally.
Sauna
Usually around 90 degrees and 80%humidity. Wooden. Humidity and temperature automatically controlled no wet rocks sadly. AMAZING THOUGH. the most relaxing thing after steam room
Steam room - with eucalyptus to make breathing easier. SIMPLY THE BEST THING EVER. No more comments

The rest
There is a tanning place ST. Tropez. The first tan is around £30.
There is a bar and kids area with reasonably good prices and very comfy chairs and a room with soft walls where kids go wild
Media library - DVD rentals 1.50
In the same building ESPA and SEAN HANNA
There are regular events and singles club

FREEBIES
Kids under 5 go free
Introduce a friend and get a gift (like wine club membership or sports equipment) and they get personal trainer sessions (if anybody wants to get introduced ask me please)
If you a high goer get a 7 day pass for a friend. I got it.
Before you join there are tons of trials so try it

Classes
Variety of classes for all ages and abilities. My personal favourite Rhythm and Groves. Timetable is on the website

some pictures there + class timetable

I belong to sporta in Belfast - and it sounds like they are equally good. Only we use our membership cards to secure the lockers, not the pound coin. Maybe I'll use Esporta freeway to visit Kingston sometime - its another perk of membership. Trevor
