The Esporta at Salford Quays is probably one of the best in the Manchester area in terms of cleanliness, service, appearance, and equipment. It is lacking mainly in size of the pool, and perhaps location, but the location depends on where you live, so it may be very convenient!

The fitness area includes two levels of machines for

Cardio: stationary cycles, sitting cycles, rowing machines, treadmills, step machines, and a variety of other equipment like elliptical trainers.
Weight machines: bench press, leg press, shoulder machines, arm machines, and a variety of specialized equipment for hamstrings and tummy exercises.
Free weights: all the necessary weights and bars you could need.
Stretching/fitness ball area: a floorspace with area for stretching, using small freeweights, or fitness balls.
Spin room: enough room for maybe 30 people (i.e. stationary spin cycles).
Fitness hall: a large area for other aerobics classes.

There is also a pool, separate changing rooms for men/women which are done to a high standard, and private showers, 6 for men, ? for women. The pool area is small, not particularly good for doing laps, but has a large window overlooking the Quays, so is relaxing. There is a steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi as well, all in the same area.

The classes offered are frequent, run most of the day (i.e. morning through evening) and last from 30 minutes to 1 hour, including aerobics, aqua, pilates, pump, karate, and yoga. These are taught by on-site staff or sometimes from visiting staff. I found all staff to be friendly and helpful in the classes.

In addition, with membership you receive 3 'reviews' of your workout plan, to help you keep on track and focus on the muscles or weight loss that you desire. It's nice, and they are flexible with times if you work with them and keep them updated.

Other than that, it's a gym, and we all know that you just have to go, otherwise it's useless. I have heard of other people having issues with membership and paying upfront, but they do have direct debit plans to the best of my knowledge. The offers change frequently, so the best thing to do is ring and see what they have on, and check if you can get a corporate discount, for example.

Other bonuses: parking free, great view of the Quays while working out, and a nice reception with coffee, tea, and complimentary fruit!
