A few years ago now I purchased a Eurohike 220 Dome tent for £39.99 from Milletts outdoor/camping store for the purpose of my music festival-going activities. At the time I thought I was being clever by buying a red one – “unusual” I thought “everyone else’s will be blue or green” I thought. On getting to the campsite at Reading Festival I realised it may just not be so easy to find my little red tent among the mere 10,000 or so other red tents among the 50 000+ campers – dammit! I was so jealous of the leopard print tent I spotted (pardon the pun!)
Back to the tent itself – a two berth (at a squeeze) of simple construction and a breeze to put up so long as you don’t find yourself on dry, stoney ground where you cannot get the tent pegs in! The tent has an outer waterproof skin, with an inner tent/skin which includes a sturdy built-in groundsheet – so no messing about with multiple pieces of canvas. The basic construction is of two large, flexible plastic poles which contain thick elastic and are assembled in a cross shape through the loops of the outer canvas bringing your tent to a little dome shape as you tuck the poles into the four corner loops. You then clip the inner tent in place inside and – Voila! – that’s all there is to it – it takes me about 10-15 minutes to put it up, allowing extra time for banging in the tent pegs if you’re on hard ground.
It stayed put in wind and sun and rain – and remained waterproof although I have yet to experience prolonged downpours or storms in it. Make sure it is securely attached to the ground in case of wind though!
It also has a top vent flap which you can unclip to let the air in, cool it down (tents get very hot on a sunny day!) and avoid condensation.
The tent and its accompanying poles and pegs all fold and pack away neatly into a zip up matching canvas bag for easy transport. It’s quite a knack getting it to fit back into the bag but you need to use a “roll and squeeze” technique!
After use it is best to rinse down your tent – I hang my out on the washing line for a couple of days to give it an airing too to make sure any captured bugs and dampness disappears – otherwise the canvas may rot.
So far my festival camping activities have been an enjoyable success with this little tent. Probably the best sort to buy for short camping breaks for it’s sheer good price, practicality and design.
Advantages: Easy to pitch Disadvantages: everyone else at Glastonbury festival has one
Time to get the tent out and make sure everything is in tiptop condition. It is Glastonbury in 4 weeks time and we use our Euro hike tent.
Our tent is about 4 or 5 years old cost about £40 it is a green 2-man tent, yes it is big enough for 2 Adults and a child a bit of a squeeze but fine for a night or 2.
The tent comes in a bag with handles fairly light, (cant find spec on wieght)easy to carry.
This Euro hike tent is easy to put up. There is ... ...which you slide into place, and an inner skin, which you fix to the outer tent with lots of toggles; this inner tent has ground sheet attached already. There are tent pegs to fix the tent to the ground to stop it blowing away.
It takes me 15 minutes to put it up on my own (I timed myself last year) Less time with another.
Yes it is waterproof! We have used it at Glastonbury in the rainstorms. A hint if you are going to Glasto and it looks like ...

I first purchased the Eurohike 220 about 2 years ago when I was going on a Duke Of Edinburugh expedition, the tent was light weight and it was very easy to carry on the expedition. Another reason I bought the tent was because it was so easy to erect. The poles easily located in the channels and it just popped up. The simple job of hammering in the pegs followed and then you could use it to your hearts content. This is the type of tent you need after ... ...is easy to put up with no fiddeling. The only problem with the tent is that it is too small it is about 5"8 long and now iam 6". This tent was a great tent and it served me well for the 2 years that it was in my possesion. The only problem now is finding a tent that will match it in price and in all of the other essential criteria that a good tent needs.
Many other people that I know bought this tent, the type of people that should buy this are ...

Advantages: Lightweight and ideal for adventure trips. Easy to errect Disadvantages: Noise of camping
I used a Eurohike 220 to live in when I travelled eastern Europe for 3 months. Although I travelled in a car and didn't have to carry it, the size of the tent when folded was very important as their had to be room for all of our camping equiptment and 3 peoples luggage. This tent is extremely easy to put up, just fitting the poles though the outer waterproof cover, pegging down the inner section and the attaching the two together. Very easy to errect ... ...that little bit longer but once you have put it up and down a few times you get quicker at it. I would advise anyone who is giong to camp, anywhere, to take roll mats. you wouldn't think such a thin layer of foam would make too much difference, but it does. Once you are in your sleeping bag, on top of the roll mat, you can not feel the ground that is underneath you. It was a four man tent but was comfortable for three and had enough space to have ...

Advantages: very easy to put up Disadvantages: keeping inner and outer tent separate is difficult
A good quality, light weight tent. Perfectly suited to short camping trips and festivals. It is very easy to put up, with clear instructions for every step. Less easy to put away and fit everything in the carry case - I would highly recommend looking closely at how it is all folded up before you unravel for the first time. Seam sealent is essential if you don't want a soggy sleeping bag.
Could do with more internal storage, as there are only two ...
