Advantages: Ready when you are, no embarrasment of the gym Disadvantages: Bit heavy to move about, may need motivation, annoying video
...Anyway, onto my Gazelle. It arrived flat packed so requires a little bit of construction which thankfully my man had completed by the time I arrived home from work. He found it quite straightforward to assemble so should be easy enough for most folks.
Once it is set up you are best to refer to the book supplied which tells you how to use the machine including how to safely get on and off. It tells you to bend your knees slightly when you are "gliding" and that is pretty much all you need to know other than the actual exercises you can do which are also included on the free video - more on that later.
It feels peculiar when you first get on as you are standing on pedals sort of hovering about the ground. Like most cross trainers, the pedals are connected to the handles so when you push your leg forward the handle comes back and vice...

Advantages: Can be as good as a Weights-Gym/Multi-Gym for building/training Upper Body and Mid-Section Disadvantages: Not as effective for Lower Body as it is for Upper Body, Not that easy to 'Fold-Away' every time you use it
...financially/workwise had improved considerably, I decided to put some time aside to start working out again .... and this is where the story I guess really begins!!!
By this time I was 15 and a half stone, and while at least I 'carried it' well, I knew I had let myself go. My previously 33 inch waist was now more like 39 inches and I knew it was time to 'take care of business' in this part of my life.
So I decided to re-embark upon an exercise program. And the Total Gym 1000 was the equipment I had at my disposal to use!
HOW IT WORKS
The Total Gym 1000 is effectively gliding board that you either sit or lie on which can be attached to cables with pulleys and grip-handles that you pull to move your body up and down glide rails that the board slides upon. You are able to adjust the pitch of the angle that the board glides up and down at so...

Advantages: Easy to use and good on the joints Disadvantages: Very Heavy and cumbersome
...that make it stand out from other gliding machines. It is very quiet to use and every now and then when a slight squeak develops I give it a drop of oil and I go back to almost silent gliding.
There is a video you can follow where Tony offers workouts of different levels, showing you different moves you can do for different muscle groups - and some of them hurt let me tell you! But I have found the best bit about the machine is you can listen to music or watch TV and just stride or glide away to your hearts content putting in as much effort as you want. This I think is what I like best about it - I can monitor how fast I am going as if I was running without the stress on my joints. For less mobile people they can use it for walking in order to build up to faster movements. There are 2 power pistons that you can attach to the legs to make...

It was an impulse buy from Asda at £99.97 and now I'm regretting it.
LOOKS
Looked good out of the box and when I plugged it in, set its self up in seconds by scanning all the available channels.
The unit looks quite good and the display is bright... more
