Full review
Before reading this review, it is necessary to understand a bit about bicycle lubricants. There are a number of different kinds, each with their advantages and disadvantages.

The first, most basic kind is the venerable wet lubricant, which is petroleum-based. Such lubricants have been around in one form or another for over 100 years. They work well over a wide temperature range, and are water-resistant, but they collect dirt. For this reason, wet lubricants are best for fair-weather road riding, but not optimal for bad weather and off-road riding.

The second kind of lube in common use is a dry lube, which is a wax-based lubricant. Such lubricants are designed to repel dirt, particularly from bicycle chains. But they do so by flaking off as you ride, which requires you to apply them more frequently than wet lubes. They also must be applied while the bike is warm and don't lubricate well in cold weather. This makes them terrific for off-road riding in warm weather, but a poor choice for cold weather use.

Finally, there are more exotic lubricants, also based on either petroleum or wax, but with added ingredients such as teflon, graphite and/or chemicals that manufacturers claim bond to metal and protect it. These claims are questionable, performance varies and some of these lubes are relatively expensive, but the aim is to create a lubricant that defies the basic properties of whatever it's based on (oil or wax). To the best of my knowledge, nobody has found that elusive super-lube yet, but some of these concoctions seem to work better under particular conditions than others.

Now that you have a better understanding of bicycle lubricants, here is the review of the product at hand!

By keeping a bicycle properly lubricated would actually prolong the life of a drivetrain. A clean, lubricated chain - with the excess lube wiped off with a rag - a clean, lubricated chain won't wear down against itself - they call it friction in the motor oil commercials - anyway, you can maintain the life of a chain simply by keeping it clean and lubed. Naturally, a clean, lubricated chain runs more quietly, especially when the derailleur cogs are lubed, too. No more chirping, squeeking! You can also use the lubricant to make sure the brake and shifter cables, as well as the shifter pivots operate freely friction can wear down cables over time, as well.

Finish Line's Teflon Dry stakes claim as cycling's first dry-style lubricant, and stands in a long line of top-notch Finish Line products. The Teflon Dry applies wet, then dries into a pasty substance that "will not attract dirt or grime." Suited for dry, dusty conditions, the Teflon Dry is also versatile enough to work satisfactorily in wet conditions. Teflon Dry resists water wash-off, - you can ride through water crossings without worrying about losing lube.

A cyclist that appreciates options, you will be pleased to learn that Teflon Dry is available in both 2oz and 4oz squeeze bottles, or in 8oz and 12oz aerosol spray cans. Teflon Dry is Finish Line's best selling lubricant, so you should have little trouble finding it in many of his local bike shops or online stores…

It's not too late. If you're bike has turned you into a Chirping Charlie, there's still time. Get yourself some Finish Line Teflon Dry, and get that bike performing like the silent, efficient machine it was designed to be.
