Traditional comes dressed in a dumpy brown glass bottle which is heavily embossed with the Fischer name and logo. It is capped with a porcelain swing closure which has been the signature of the Fischer Brewery since 1821. There is only a meagre label around the neck which notes that the contents are a Premium French Beer brewed and bottled in France. All three (bottle, label and stopper) feature a church with a thin spire (which my DK Eyewitness Guide to France assures me is the Cathedral Notre-Dame in Strasbourg). The strength is 6% ABV.
THE DRINK
I stored the bottle in the refrigerator and served it cold (about 10ºC). For a start the spring clipped ceramic stopper is a devil to undo so you have to watch your fingernails ? or fingers! It pours with a good sparkle, creating a small head and leaving a lace tracery around the glass. It is ...

Advantages: A good thirst quencher Disadvantages: Not very complex
mugs or straight noninck tumblers - pint or half pint - that's about it.
One of the few glasses I have in my pathetic collection is a gold rimmed, tulip shaped, flute glass which bears the Fischer logo. This was a 'gift' from a cafe in Strasbourg where I first sampled this brew.
"Mrs.P," I said, "I like this glass. I would like to have one just like it for my very own."
"That's incredibly interesting," she replied, with what I thought was the meerest hint of sarcasm, "you should buy one."
- "Steady on. I don't like it that much."
"You're a mean master." She said. At least that's what it sounded like. She says that I'm so tight-fisted that if I dropped a £1 coin, it would hit me on the back of the head.
Anyway, I've got the glass. So, when I saw a bottle of Fischers in my local supermarket, I said to Mrs.P.....you know how ...

Advantages: Reasonably priced food and drink in central Manchester Disadvantages: Horrible toilets
I work just down the street from The Crown and have been a frequent visitor for over 12 years. Since my first visit it has transformed from a grotty side street pub that to its current guise of more up-market lounge bar.

On entering the front doors of the Crown you immediately see the long bar, covering the whole of the back wall, which is directly opposite the doors. To the right is a section of high bar tables, a couple of slot machines and access to the toilets, to the left are the comfy sofas, behind which is the main food seating area, which consists of booths and small tables.
