Fitness First Health Clubs appealed to me above all others, when I decided to sign up for "the burn" circa 6-years ago (Crikey ... is it that long?!), because they were not only moderately and reasonably priced for the market, but one of the features of membership is the ability to utilise any club in the country (166 in the UK!), provided you have your membership card with you. Advantages: Great atmosphere, more than enough machines and weights, free drinks, lots of TVs...too many to list!!
Disadvantages: Expensive if you don't you it enough!!!

Advantages: Great off peak membership and a friendly creche
Disadvantages: Gym classes are at times not everyone may find suitable

I find the atmosphere at fitness first relaxing especially with free hot and cold drinks up stairs in the lounge area where there is also a generous supply of magazines and newspapers. The changing rooms are spacious and their are single sex saunas in each. The jacuze(?) is however mixed. The creche is well laid out quite resonably priced when compared to others. ...a cancellation fee if your little angel decides to be ill that day. The facilities are good with lots of different machines and the staff are very helpful. Their is a good selection of gym classes however I found these did not always coincide well with the creche availablity or my off peak memebership. ...also run a forum about Fitness First , it contains insightful information about this company and some real opinions and feedback about FitnessFirst ! So before you join one of the FitnessFirst gyms come and have a look at our forums . I changed my direct debit as I had changed my bank. Fitness First failed to change it on the computer, which meant I incurred £60 of bank charges. I didn't get any where with the club but when I spoke to the customer ...
