When I first joined Fitness First For Women, I thought I had found everything I wanted in a gym. And never had any problems with the club itself.
But being a student, one is always looking for cheaper, better value for money options. When I found out the University Gym was only £30 a YEAR with a swimmingpool and free classes, I decided to leave Fitness First.
I received no letter confirming that my membership had been cancelled after writing to them to give one months notice that I was terminating the contract I had with them, but the Direct Debits stopped coming out my account. Thinking everything was hunky dorey I left it.
Next thing I know my sister is calling me practically in tears saying that a Debt Recovery Agency working for Fitness First has sent me a letter demanding £181!!!! Absolutely raging I called Fitness First to ask if this was a mistake. They checked on the computer and assured me it was. And I could just ignore it. This time taking no chances, my mother called the Debt Recovery Agency for me (I had lectures). They were extremely rude and unprofessional. Telling my mum to "shut up" and that they were "coming for their money".
This is Scotland....they can't get a County Court Judgement as we have no County Courts!
Again, called Fitness First who told me 100% I did not owe any money and I was to ignore any more letters. However, a week later I received another letter saying they were going to get solicitors to get a County Court judgement. Again called Fitness First and I was told "It's a mistake. Ignore it."
Then I got a solicitors letter. This is was not going to ignore. I called the company and demanded a letter stating that I owe the company no money and my membership had been cancelled. Eventually I got one, and with no word of apology from either Fitness First or CARS (the Debt Recovery Agency) things have died down.
However, having read other peoples stories on http://www.fitnessfirstsucks.com I'm not so sure this has been resolved yet.
DO NOT USE FITNESS FIRST!

Great as a warning but technically to get a higher rating you'd need to put a bit more in about Fitness First. Please leave a message in my guestbook if you add any info and I will be happy to re-rate. Alexandra x

I have agree that Fitness First have a problem - I was a member a few years ago and they increased my Direct Debit without any advance warning. They told me they had no obligation to advise me of the increase as they had posted a notice on the gym wall which was sufficient. Needless to say I left and haven't been back!

As below, you don't say anything about the gym itself.
